    Ethics

1st sentence is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.  Until we get judges that aren't looking toward their next job judging or paying back a favor, & have the guts to judge a breeding heifer as exactly that, this will continue. 2nd sentence made me smile!  Had a 1K lb April heifer in AZ & she placed where she...

    Arizona Nationals

The GC steer was not stalled in the Jr barn, he was stalled w/ their open cattle & I can tell you from my own observation that the "owner" was rarely allowed to touch the animal during the 5 days as they had at least 4 full-time hands working the string.  From what I saw of the reserve, that kid...

Your thoughts on the results of the National Red Angus show in Denver

@Cowman.  There are good predictable red bulls out there - you just don't hear about them because some of us don't follow the show circuit or jump on the bandwagons of the "hot" bulls.  As RW well knows, we have fought for years against the onslaught of the "PHd" EPD theories and for 28 years...

    Ziptie a tail

Love your reaction OFS.  "Fit by injection" has really gone too far & never seems to be policed at shows.  A tail swisher irritates the heck out of me but I'll tolerate that before I stick a needle in a spine.  Zip ties work but we have to understand the emotional reactions of non-livestock...

    Joint Supplements for show steer

I have used supplement products from su-perstore.com for years with great results.  MSM, Glucosamine C.S., & Hyaluronic Acid are all natural supplements that keep my show cattle comfortable & moving freely.

    Our girls

Thanks for your opinions. @Cruiser, we will show them at a couple local shows this year then put them to pasture & wait for their babies to arrive; @Outspoken, they're our type too - good, solid breedable heifers.  The top hfr is 14 months & the bottom is just under 11 months; @IrishShorthorns...

    Our girls

Don't really need to have them slam-dunked, we know they have faults, but would appreciate constructive opinions.  We were so happy to FINALLY have some SH heifers born here instead of bulls.  Haven't been clipped or fluffed, just rinsed & brushed.  One is 04/11 the other 07/11.  Thanks.

Is this what an "Honorable" breeder does?

I'm so sorry you had this experience w/ a Red Angus.  We've cut calves big as 600-700 lbs without losing one -- if something happens to one on our place, it's our loss.....  Next time ask around about the breeder's reputation.

How do you get manure balls or tags out of hair on a steer?

This string is an example of why I love the Planet.....clicked on it because we have same problem, & learned far more than I bargained for!!!!!

Advice needed (shorthorn ET and the ASA)

I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty with the ASA office...but I feel obligated to say that my experience with them has always been fruitful.  The best method of communication for me has been via email rather than telephone.  I've always received a reply (maybe not right away but in a...

    Shorthorn heifer bull

Anybody have advice on a CALVING-EASE Shorthorn bull with sexed semen available?  FINALLY had a couple of heifers, after years of bull calves, and need help on a bull to AI them to!  Want sexed semen to increase the chance of more heifer calves....  THANKS.

Potential genetic defect in Shorthorn cattle

Ditto!  Just finished wading through all 22 pages of this topic.  Would appreciate DL keeping us up to date on progress.  You folks are way more knowledgeable than I am, and without discussions such as this I too would have never though "genetic defect" if presented with a calf with symptoms...

Natural Fill/new product similar to Winning Fill

I love it!  Used it on grandsons' steers & it really helped put a back on them.

    Thanks to Steerplanet

I recently had a big calf born which started going over at the knees on about day 3, getting so bad that it hurt me to watch him walk.  Soooo, I used your fabulous search feature to see if anyone had posted a similar problem.  Lo & behold, our beloved Red had posted the same situation a few...
