    expo shorthorn sale

Longs bought 1/3 of the plus heifers. Anything under 800 I believe John bought. I didnt realize being elected state president meant you were stuck flooring the royal sale. The 77 flush didnt get a bid.

    expo shorthorn sale

Weird sale. Bulls were strong, VERY strong through the first third. Heifers seemed pretty soft. A lot of the plus' looked like they barely got off the scale. I marked a catalog if anyone has specific lot inquiries, I am far too lazy and apathetic to do a complete listing.

    Launter Bulls 2010

I am curious who the bull Knabe pictured is. His feet do look rather incorrect, other than that he looks like a yearling bull calf thrown to the elements to me. He may lay down and die, but he will have a smile on his face. Fact is alot of things happen to make a bull, especially a young one...

    Flatbed on a shortbed?

I have an 06 f350, single wheel. It has the extended cab and is a shortbed. I have managed to beat the tar out of the box as I actually use my truck the way the Lord intended. It is splayed from hauling round bales, dented by overzealous cows at feeding time, and dinged from sliding into various...

    lookin for apricot

Never thought I would ever see someone wanting to use Abricot on purpose again. I cant fathom how hard it would be to handle 3000# of evil like that. 4 inch pipe wouldnt stand a chance. How in the name of Sam did they get the chains on his nose rings? Did they draw straws to see who had to...

If I had any semen I would use it. I like Windsor cows. Style never goes out of fashion.

Did you know mkt heifers at NW had to be open?

kolhaus' reserve heifer this year was the result of an egg retrieved from a previous champion of theirs. It was an interesting story. Also if thye can get the ovaries at time of slaughter transova can retrieve viable eggs for IVF.

Did you know mkt heifers at NW had to be open?

Show heifer, you are an intelligent, learned agribusiness woman. That being said, every post you have ever typed is representative of a newly calved EXT daughter.

Did you know mkt heifers at NW had to be open?

They often do single egg embryo transfer in the months before ISF. At least Kolhaus does(according to him) since they know they might win it every year

NEW TO THE SHORTHORN BREED HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS

John, I think it is great that you are posting here. You should be proud that there are posts debating whether your family's single handed dominance of the breed is good or bad. It would be a lot easier for people to hate you if you werent so damn nice.

Did you know mkt heifers at NW had to be open?

That always almost brought tears to my eyes seeing the grand and reserve mkt heifers at ISF and knowing they had to die. I know that they arent optimum maternal stock, but my heaven, they are majestic creatures. I heard today that they preg check the new market heifer class at Denver and you...

Great googly moogly Mark. I have a rule that great cattle take lousy pics and crap sandwiches take lousy pics. That heifer must be a pile of nothing. Wink wink nod nod. I love powerful attractive useful cattle. I hate to look at my ugly horns because they are ugly. Their calves arent...

    Too Small Framed?

TJ, I am not the enemy here, I am on your side. Fact is I just saw a load of steers weighing 825, bawling for mom, bring $1.09. Solid black, stout, few dot heads, all out of the clean up bulls from a "clubby" guys herd. Clubby freaks dont work. Puddy midgets dont work. Quality attractive...

7t's was vic taylor wasn't it? I remember when I got the catalog for his most recent dispersion he had a whole boatload of Clipper King of USA semen. Should have been sold with a disclaimer "For Nostalgic Use Only". I still dabble in the older stuff with the horns I have left. I have a 3 year...

    Too Small Framed?

"sigh"... I wondered how long it would take to wake the sleeping giant that is the lowline mafia on here. Niche marketing notwithstanding (I believe in it) and my wholly conceding that lowlines have a valuable place in profitable beef production (and will undoubtedly implement their genetics on...

    Too Small Framed?

I dont care what feeder calf auction you go to, you roll in with a load of black hided attractive cattle with a little grow to them you will always top the market. I am not talking furry cripple midgets. I am talking good "two way" cattle that are angus based with a tic of maine simmy and even...

Funny thing Jeff, the only bad steermaker cattle I ever saw were at the guy who raised him. I have heard from several people who have a qualified opinion that Steermaker was the best looking mature bull of any breed they ever saw.I had his full brother running around for all of 4 days before I...

    What is your oldest cow

Had a post like this a long time ago. Doc Thomas from Fort dodge told me himself he euthanized a small herd of Herfs that were in there 40s. I called BS, but the pedigrees matched tattoos and all the old neighbors knew the cows.

Leggs. (wo dividend 3j). You want to know how KABA became KABA? They had a full brother to Leggs. LENRU TA LEADER. DId great on their Hilltop Lancer breeding. Warren Oetken, merril Iowa. He is kind of a trip in a PT Barnum kind of way, but the old boy hit it deep when he bought the Tulip cow.
