    Halter Breaking

There was an episode of the Cattle Show on RFD one time that showed one method of breaking calves. It involved a medium sized pen, and a couple lead ropes. Basically, the main idea was the tie the ropes together, and stand in the center of the pen. Let the calf run around in circles. As the calf...

    John Deere or Case?????

Well, it depends. John Deere makes great stuff, but it will vary from which person you talk too. There are people that are die hard JD fans (myself being one), and those that are die hard Case IH fans. Then you have those in the middle. We just recently bought a mid horsepower JD with the...

Good books for flight or summer reading

If you like westerns, read Elmer Kelton's Buckskin Line series. There are like 5 books, but i cant remember them all. They are great stories, and are addictive.

    Building A Mister System

Yeah, all the ones ive seen have been in front of the fans. We have 2 turbo fans in out barn. i thought maybe running them along the ceiling or hanging down a little and just spraying down on the calves would reduce the mess in the barn.

    Building A Mister System

We have a bunch of old sprayer parts. It gets really hot here in Nebraska in the summer. If i could get a hose with some old nozzles set up, do you think it would work? If so, should i place the nozzles in front of the fan, or above the calves so it shoots down.

    th and pha

I did a report on this stuff, and it is very interesting, but, IMHO, it isnt worth the risk. I can see maybe breeding an Angus cow (no TH/PHA in genetics) to a Clubby bull for steers, but i wouldnt breed any other breeds to the clubby bulls that might be carrying the defects. That's why we just...

    Polaris Ranger

I have to disagree with you sawboss (sorry). We just recently traded our old Rhino off for a new one. We got the 08 EFI model. It is a work horse. We use it to pull pivots out, haul feed, and pull the pipe trailer. Yesterday we even pulled a 20 ft trailer with 50+ square bales on it with it...

Dirt Track Racing (Not Cattle Related)

Does anyone enjoy these? What are your favorite type of cars to watch? What is your favorite or hometown track? Every year we go to Belleville, Kansas for the NCRA Late Models on the 4th of July. They are a blast to watch. We are hoping to go down more than once this year. We also go the...

    Heifer Pics

She is very nice. It depends if the show is terminal. I think she would do very well in a breeding class. We had a heifer last year, that we showed as a market heifer, and we still regret it. She got to fat to breed, so we just had to send her to the feedlot. You can ruin a good heifer by trying...

Cattlemen (and women) how do you afford to keep your cattle

This is a response to the farming thread. I am a farmer and a cattleman. We keep our cattle going by land we have bought over the years for pasture, (which we are losing a bunch to land lords tearing it up for farming), and by using our own grain to mix feed. How do you keep going with the high...

Farmers how do you afford to farm?

high grain prices, and the cattle are what keep us going. we also just watch for a low price, and lock in our fuel and seed and chemicals for the next year or sometimes longer. it seems to be working out for us, but we farm a lot of ground, it would be hard for a smaller farm.

    should he be under fans?

If you get Livestock Plus, there is an article in it this month about brushing your calves, and them using hair. Basically, it says, that you brush and brush and rinse and rinse and the hair still comes out. This isnt a BAD thing, the hair will come back, fuller and healthier than before, and...
