    Heat Question

Ready to wean calf off of cow and cow just completed heat cycle, but I want to wait on AI till April.  If I put her in  pasture where the bull is, will she stay on same 21 day cycle or does weaning calf throw off the cycle and come in heat.  I use natural heat so just trying to avoid lute shot...

    HLSR

HLSR is a blow and go, so no fitting needed.  Best if you get someone out to your house a week before show to clip them up

    Melatonin\weight gain

my understanding for melatonin is it calms them and helps with hair.  You sure it helps with weight gain?

    Melatonin\weight gain

Why are you using it?  You must have done the research about it or know someone that has used it.  Wish I could help, but have never used it.  Good feed, fresh water and hay is all I have used to gain weight on a steer.  Maybe I missed out

    BDR calf

Haha, nice compliment.  In your opinion, what bull would be a good match for her?  She is such an easy keeper, great mama, AI stuck both times first try. Out of Daddy’s Money, so 50% Maine but likely a carrier.  BDR is clean so that worked out.  I was considering Broker, since I have the semen. ...

    best clipper lube?

Yes.  $5 to $7 dollars for 32 oz vs $8-$10 for 10oz.  Valvoline has a synthetic oil but is a paraffin, crude oil based, and why I use Pennzoil, which comes from Natural Gas.  It’s very convenient to use a spray, especially when your in a hurry and most clippers like to get moving.  It’s not...

    best clipper lube?

Synthetic oil is the best.  It has a higher Viscosity Index and the molecules will not break down with higher temps.  All lubricants are derived from crude oil and go through the refining process then are shipped to various lube blender for packaging I make my own by buying a quart of Pennzoil...

    More corn

I don’t think his post was directed at increasing yield to the US farmer, he was simply posting a link on how this science breakthrough could be exported to countries to increase corn production for feeding hungry people. It’s a good debate and discussion. Is there any corn in production that...

Heifer that's a little straight in her hocks

    What should I do?

I’m sorry you are dealing with that, it can be frustrating.  A vet can put a stethoscope on his lungs to hear him breathing to determine if he’s still dealing with respiratory illness.  As far as feed, try a diff brand of feed like purina, put two big handfuls of alfalfa on top and see if he...

    Still running a fever??

Eating is the main thing, don’t fuss over him too much.  If he stops eating, hit him with some probios to get his rumen going . Keep a fan on him but you should be good to go with Baytril
