Are you the  parent or the kiddo? 4h or FFA?    Do you have a blower?  Having family fun is the main thing.  Leave your perfection hat at home.  You will probably see beginners with barely any show supplies to near professionals with decked out gooseneck and huge shoeboxes.  Don’t worry about what you don’t have but what you need.  If you just showed up with the steer and halter, you could probably borrow everything else.  Take these if you can:  water bucket, feed pan, feed,  blower, comb, show halter, showstick, pooper scooper.  You can take water hose.  I like to get there, blow them off, shampoo, conditioner, rinse and spend a lot of time blowing them dry.  After they are dry, feed them.  After eating see if they will drink.  Then relax and they should lay down. 30 minutes or so before show, get them up, blow all the dirt out, comb all hair forward (if they have any).  Lightly spray show sheen and blow it in hair to dry.  Put show halter on and you are good to go.

Bigger shows, you would clip the calf’s hair before leaving barn and extensive touch up at show.  You can still do that at Jackpot shows if you are experienced or know someone that can trim the wild hairs

Only other thing I would add is, walk around and study things others do. Ask questions if you can and make sure you know when your class is and when check in is. CW is right have fun and learn.

If you bought your show calves from someone in your area......try to tag along with them!

We learned a lot by going along with the people that we bought our cattle from.  Often times they have as many as 10 families at any given Jackpot show.  They may tell you to bring nothing, and you can just pay them for chemicals.

I'm part of 4-h. This is my first year showing. I do have a blower but don't have a chute.
