    Warning! Topic may get heated!

[. Once again, too many 40 year old 4-Her's. >:( You have hit the proverbial NAIL ON THE HEAD!  If it werent for the 40 year old 4-Hers and FFA'ers.  There would be a whole lot less of this kinda stuff, and a whole lot more of kids learning what they are doing all this for.  Sometimes we get...

What was old is hot now!

I didnt think my son would ever have "long" hair either. By long I mean touching the collar.  Actually he looks pretty good, I just had a really hard time accepting that my child whom would complain if his hair touched his ears would let it grow out.  Its hard letting them make choices for...

    Good news for Warrior!

I just read in the newspaper that the Grand Champion steer at Fort Worth was bought by an oil company and they donated the calf to the Fort Worth Zoo!  What a happy ending for all involved!  I know we tend to get too attatched to our show animals knowing  what they are raised for but you always...

Repeat of Thread from Last Year: Most anticipated Mating!

We are just plain excited to have a 4-H project heifer bred.  We bred a Mr. Incredible lineage herford heifer to Wells Fargo. I havent heard much on this bull, but were just hoping for an easy first calf.  We wanted to use Ali, but it was hard to find. Anyone else used Wells Fargo?

Slaughter House Abuse From Agriculture's Best Friend, HSUS

I wonder what that chicken has been through? I raised lambs in High School...I didnt eat them after that.  When my son raised hogs for Ag projects I quit eating pork.  When he went to goats...well I never ate one so dont miss it.  Now he is into Steers.  Darn, but I love a good steak ... just...

    How is your county fair?

That is kinda strange.  I wouldnt put much past a county show.  For years I defended the county show thing, but after this year I too was treated like crud from an advisor whom I thought was great.  After taking up for him from other parents for years I have now come to realize all the stuff was...

    20 million illegal aliens

Hmmm, We are close to the border by about 5 hours.  Where I work we are also the bus station.  If anyone has watched Glenn Beck then you know his views on this subject very well.  So after hearing his speach I randomly started asking for identification if anyone wanted to purchase a bus ticket. ...

    Livestock judges

    What is a cavvie please?
  16. R

    Livestock judges

What does everyone think about one judge judging all species and classes of livestock?  For example: a judge comes to a county show, starts at 8 am with calves and goes all the way through the goats, sheep and then finishes up with swine at 6 p.m.  Can a hog judge be a steer judge and a sheep...

    Jackpot calf breakdown

Okay....being our first year with calves we took the same precautions as we did with hogs. wash before you leave your farm wash at the show, and as soon as you get home wash before they even get close to the barn. Am I being paranoid?  I didnt care if it was midnight we washed our calf before he...

    show heifer accident

You know what?  You just taught me a lesson.  This is our first year and I had NO idea that could happen.  We often tie our steer up high at lunch and then my son goes out and lets him down after school.  NOBODY is around.  I am so sorry about your heifer...but thanks for waking me up! By the...

Any ideas how to put fat on the last two ribs?

Thanks to everyone for their advice!  I will try some of these and see what happens.  This is our first calf, and we are very green when it comes to anything to do with club calves.  Amazing how some of the same things we used on hogs works on cattle too!  I am glad I didnt shy away from cattle...
