    JSF Capiche !!

I have no proof, but I believe that.  Tarentaise have a high % of butterfat (a little lower than a Jersey) & they wean some really big calves.  In fact, I've seen them wean significantly heavier calves than similar sized or bigger Red Angus cows (bred to the same bull) in multiple herds in this...

    Thriller pic

I may have to try that critter on something.  Just going off the pics, that is probably the best 09 bull that I've seen.

Could Kentucky drop 2 in a row?   :o  :o  :o  Guess we will find out what they are made of when they play a ranked Vandy team this Saturday.   FWIW, Vandy is better than USC-E (aka South Carolina) & they have a nice point guard who, while not as good as Downey, is pretty good.   FYI, Patrick...

    Who's got Wrestlers out there?

I used to wrestle.  It was extremely hard work, but I loved it.  I wasn't great, but I did OK.  Our HS team was state runner up my soph year & 5th my JR year.  The best I ever individually was place as a state runner up in AAU during my soph year.  Our district was unbelievably good, with a...

Yeah & it looked to me like he wasn't the only one.  Dodson missing a very important uncontested dunk, Bledsoe not going for the dunk & missing, & Patterson, Orton, Harris, & Miller were all pretty much MIA, and on and on and on.  Cousin's did play a pretty decent game, but he wasn't exactly his...

Unfortunately, UK couldn't guard Devin Downey.    ;)   Now, 19-1. Get ranked #1, get a call from the President, make Devin Downey look like the NCAA Player of the Year, and then get beat all within 48 hours.  They needed a humbling, IMHO.  Better now than later.

    Hottest new breed

That can certainly be a problem with light pigmented cattle.

    Too Small Framed?

The only 1/2 blood Lowline steer that I ever sold at a sale barn (public auction) grossed $749 & some change at 11 months of age.  It came off a 1st calf Tarentaise heifer & after being weaned on forage, it was fed soy hulls & grass hay for the last 45-60 days.  Since I've only sold 1, & that...

    Denver Shorty Sale

It was quite interesting to see that the top selling bull was promoted as being out of a "1200 lb. cow".

    Ahead of their time??

I liked her.  She's extremely wide across the hook bones.  Looked to be a little different type than a lot of modern day Shorthorns, especially since she was real similar in frame size to some 1/2 Lowline's.

    breeding up unregistered cows

I can think of very little reason why you should breed them to an Angus & 2 reasons not to do it.  1st, you wont be able to register the calves.  2nd, you wont get the benefits heterosis.  As far as I know, the only Angus cattle that have a percentage registry are the Lowline Angus, so unless...

    Learning about lowline cattle

A couple of other things, you can go with fullbloods (100% DNA parent verified) or you can raise percentage bloods.  Right now, you can register down to 1/4 bloods, but only 1/2 & above can compete at the major Lowline Shows (Louisville, Denver, Billings, Kansas City, Houston, Etc).  I'm...

    Learning about lowline cattle

What do you want to know?  The market is mostly seedstock, show calves, hobby farms, locker beef, grass fed beef & I've sold a fair amount of bulls to commercial producers to use on their 1st calf heifers.  The American Lowline website is a good start, but I think that you will get more info...

Junior Lowline Association Benefit Auction held during NWSS Monday the 11th

Thanks for the pics!  She looks pretty thick for a 7 month old heifer.  BTW, I had a chance to buy her dam's full brother from Janis in Denver in 06, for pennies on the $$.  Didn't do it because he was really young & I knew I wouldn't be able to use him very much at all that year.  Anyway, he...

    Calving nightmare

I sure hate to hear that!  But, glad the heifer is up & moving around.  I've been there & done that, plenty of times in the past.  It's absolutely no fun at all!!  That is a big reason why I now raise Lowline Angus.

Junior Lowline Association Benefit Auction held during NWSS Monday the 11th

Sounded like it when I talked to him earlier.  I am wishing that I could see them because Justin said that there are some pretty impressive animals in that string he's working on, including my partnership heifer.  Something about them looking like smaller Heatwaves & Paddy O'Malley's.    :o   ...
