    Beautiful day for baby pics!

That is the one.  We have a 2008 heifer out of him and out of the mother of the Duff New Attraction heifer that has the frostbit ears.  She is super nice and Caitlin does really well showing her.  I wasn't impressed at all with the bulls out of him but the heifers that we have got we have been...

    calfs right foot turns out

My sister used to actually scrape the loose dirt out of the way, walk the steer into the flat area and then push the dirt right back against his feet.  I saw a kid once go back and pull out his calf's hock.

Straight Pipe Vehicle...... not cattle related

I used to drive an old Buick, 60's model that had glasspack mufflers on it.  That is what I heard my dad call them, talk about an awesome sound.  That car was a blast to drive.  My husband has a 2003 Dodge with the Cummins that was straight piped when he bought it.  Everyone knows when he is...

No one feels like posting? Me neither.

I posted this earlier on another post, this will work without question: 1 quart of milk replacer 2 Tbsp of honey 1 raw egg strong cup of coffee shot of whiskey Tube the little feller with that and he will be motivating soon.  Has worked on every calf I have used it on.

    RED

I am truly sorry to hear of Red's passing.  She was a wonderful person who was loved by many.  I still remember when I was having some medical problems, Red was the first person who sent me an email with a phone number for me to call her and she checked on me every day.  I will miss her...

    When engineers have dogs...

Wow, he could make a mint selling those to people with more money than sense!!  I could see it now, my dog would be putting the cat in it, come to think of it, as crazy as our cat is he would probably jump in it.

    KY Beef Expo

Didn't stick around for the show but our 10 year old daughter was 6th overall in the junior division of the judging contest.  Not sure how many there were but last year there was just a little over a 100 and it looked like there was maybe that many this year.  We didn't even stick around for the...

Gun owners need to read! non cattle

I live in southern Indiana and people have been stealing scrap like crazy.  Last summer in the county north of me a property owner caught 2 guys stealing stuff outside.  Peppered them both with a shotgun and held them at gunpoint until the police arrived.  He had been broken into several times...

    Bull to heifer Ratio

I mean the timing in the cycle.  We just purchased an Ovatec ovulation monitor that measures electrical conductivity of the mucus in the cervix.  The readings will start to fall when the cow is coming in heat.  At ovulation the number readings will make a V.  There is a "window" that you are...

    Bull to heifer Ratio

This goes back to the timing on breeding, if you breed earlier you will get heifers, later bulls.  A new bull, especially a younger one is going to be jumping cows as soon as he gets the chance, slowing down as he gets older.

A first for us - twice!!

We have 2 ranchhands so far, the first was a bull calf that was early and weighed 72 pounds, very dainty.  The second was the heifer and her mother always has big calves, she weighed 78 pounds but was very streamlined.  A small heifer might have trouble having her but a normal sized one could...

Day 5 and calf won't nurse the cow

I had the same problem last fall and ignored the baby all day, she was only 3 days old at the time, by that evening she wanted to eat and nursed like crazy.  Make sure he doesn't have a cleft palate that is eliminating his ability to suck, they can have it and look perfectly normal.
