    maintenance on a transmission tower

My husband works for OVEC and part of his job was to climb these towers.  He said that is exactly what climbing is like.  What they don't tell is that they have to wear a special pair of boots that cost about a $1000 to keep the static electricity from bothering them.  He said that it still...

    Reverse Cowgirl

Absolutely!  Even if your intention wasn't to be crude when you named an animal, you could be saying something that you didn't mean with a name.

    Reverse Cowgirl

Just as tacky as the Money Shot bull's name.  The world has lost any moral responsibility that ever existed.  I used to think that the livestock area was a good place to have kids involved but not when I have to explain a name like that.

    New Clippers

Laube cowboy clippers for roughing out, although you will find that they will work just as well for the doing smaller detail work.  If you want something smaller they have smaller styles, all the way down to 9 oz, think they are called lightenings.  Go to www.kimlaube.com.  They are the best...

    It's county fair time again!

Its that time of year again and while my husband and daughter are at the fairgrounds unloading animals and getting set up, I'M STUCK AT WORK AND WILL BE UNTIL THIS AFTERNOON! Can you tell it's killing me???  I just started a new job and Caitlin wasn't very motivated for sewing this year so...

    Last American Cowboy

Anyone watching it?  Its on tonight at 10 p.m. on Animal Planet.  Saw an episode from last week, was really neat.

Just wondering if anyone admits to doing this.......

I cut my husbands hair all the time with them and have had to cut a few boys hair at our fair, started with my nephew and then had other takers.

    I'm afraid I'm bragging again!

Yes she qualified by being in the top 5.  I'm trying to build the team back up.  This is my first year as the coach and it was just her and her best friend who is a year older, who placed 22nd.  Hopefully their success will draw in some others!

    I'm afraid I'm bragging again!

This week was our area livestock judging contest, this one is not age divided, Caitlin, who is 11 years old was judging against seniors in high school.  Got the results yesterday, SHE WON!!!  <party> <party> On her judging scoring she got a 290 out of 300.  I don't think we've come down from...

    THE TRUTH

Different rations for different cattle.  Just the ration was posted, not what type of cattle are being fed, heifers, steers or bulls.  Are they just being grown or shown?  The few times I've commented on something, usually halter breaking I've had my head bit off so not real eager to jump in and...

    OUR PRESIDENT

A steward of the land farmer, not an equpment operator.  We have way too many equipment operators around here.  We have crop fields surrounding our pastures and they are too lazy to lift their equpment and have planted through the grass waterways.  Now our pastures are getting big washes in them...

    My First A.I. Calf

My very first AI calf was twin bulls!  I got teased a lot about being an overachiever with that one!

    Heifer Size Question

We have a cow that is now a 4 year old that weighs, at her heaviest 900 pounds, very short.  We had her pelvis measured before ever breeding and she was plenty big.  She can pop out an 85-90 pound calf in minutes and raises them as big as the 1200-1400 pound cows standing next to her.  Get her...

Advice on Fluid located on the inner hock

It happens a lot in cattle with really straight back legs.  Basically the ligaments that are supposed to be on the outside of the hock roll to the inside because the hock is so straight there is nothing to stop it.  Draining it won't help and there isn't anything to do to make it go back.

    T shirt Sayings

Our club is called the Showstoppers and we had our name on the front with the 4-H emblem and on the back it said "Enough Said"

    FINALLY an awesome day!!

After the horrible last couple of weeks, 8 live calves out of the first 12 born, we finally had a great day.  Kentucky Beef Expo is this weekend and needless to say we had nothing ready to show but since I am the new coach of the livestock judging team got them ready and took them.  We had two...
