Seems funny to me that everyone is an expert when it comes to a.i. bulls or cows.  Everyone can comment about a picture of a calf that you actually really cant tell a thing about.  Dutch Pride put a post on here "Opinions on starting a club calf herd".  That has all kinds of experts commenting.  Butt no one can talk to "SlickT x Maine"  when he has a question about a steer ration.  Why is that?

Probably because no one has seen any pictures (especially not glossy, full color, full page ads) of that ration yet.... ;)

Actually, I believe that most people probably feed a sacked ration, or even if it's custom mixed, it's something that's been recommended to them, and a whole lot of the folks feeding it don't really understand why it is what it is.  Personally I looked at the post and haven't posted back yet because I have no experience with feeding barley or beet pulp in a mixed ration like that, so I'm not quite sure what to say about it.

True story.  I'd put in my $.02 but we feed steers pretty differently, and I doubt anyone on here has ever used our ration based on my advice.

Trademark, I think you are confusing  giving expert advice and giving personal opinion. There is a huge difference between a person giving their personal opinion on a bull, a cow, a calf or a breeding program, and giving advice on a feed ration when no one knows the nutritional value of the components. If you look I made a comment regarding this ration, but I also suggested that it was impossible to comment with any accuracy unless a nutritionist looked at it and calculated the components feed values into the total ration. Quite honestly, I find your attitude on some topics, including this one, a little rude.

Different rations for different cattle.  Just the ration was posted, not what type of cattle are being fed, heifers, steers or bulls.  Are they just being grown or shown?  The few times I've commented on something, usually halter breaking I've had my head bit off so not real eager to jump in and offer opinions when I'm not sure of all details.  Just my thoughts on why I'm not eager to post, maybe others opinions too.

I also looked @ the ration and like most, can't make an intelligent recommendation on the information given. Any advice based on what is given would not be good fact based info. There are hundreds of posts related to rations. My best advice would be, do a search on the subject.

When we formulate a ration here, our nutritionist figures it all up and tells us what we need for the type of cattle we are feeding.  I'm not going to give an opinion on someones feed ration when I don't even figure my own, unless you are trained knowledgeable in that area, that is something for the experts.

You want the truth - You can't handle the truth.  LOL  Sorry that's all I could come up with.

I frequent several message boards.  The truth is I wouldn't seek the truth in a message board unless I know the poster.  I'm sure most mean well, but to make decisions like a feed ration based on a message board post is not wise (in my opinion).

The truth is .. your post is negative.

The ration post was a good question but I'd want to know what the protien & fat % is before I say much.    Like Jill, we have a nutrionist figure our rations..  we tell them what we are feeding and what feedstuffs we have available or want to try and they go from there.
