    Portein Tubs

Most definately agree with the rate of consumption point.  Our local feed store sells much cheaper all natural tubs that the cows eat like candy, but it's much more cost effective to feed the Moorman's tubs that are practically twice the price because they consume much less per day.  Under...

    Showmanship

(lol)    Now that's funny.  At least you can say you got your point across to them twisted!  <cowboy>  How do u feel 'bout a nice cowboy hat?  Just for the record, I have mixed feelings about the clothing thing.  A ratty baseball cap... probably not.  But my son was scolded by a showmanship...

    Tell me if i'am wrong

I'd say it was handled badly,  the conditions should've been made known prior to the show.  Instead it looks like they changed the rules after the show, reguardless of when it was done.  Nothing agrivates me more than the head honchoes getting together after something hasn't turned out the way...

    Sale picks?

Anyone been checking out the onlline sales?  I've already found 7 or 8 heifers I'd like to add to my herd.  Too bad we don't have any grass or water or I'd probably have to spend some money.  I could put together an awesome set of charolais Xs from Trauschs!

    Early Calves

I hope so!  So glad to hear your most recent calves are going strong.  We've all about endured enough this year.  Someone posted on another website that they had pd $140 for some round bales.  I know I can't afford to pay that for hay if the time comes when I have to buy it.  The pond levels...

    Early Calves

Sorry for your losses!  Guess we've been lucky, the calves have been small, but spunky.

    Help!!

I think I'd definately start with a sorting stick.  If it takes more than a tap on the nose to discourage the steer from coming at them, they probably shouldn't be messing with him.  Animals can sense fear and after the incident with the heifer, I'm sure everyone's a little leery.  Be on the...

    Early Calves

lol.. a week to 10 days huh.  Let's see, we'd have arrived to find 8 calves on the ground already.  They get pretty speedy when you're trying to tag a 10 day old calf.  (lol)  I shouldn't make fun, they have the right idea, just finding our cows are going a little earlier than they predicted.

    Early Calves

Chambero,  glad you brought that up.  Due to available grass, and lack thereof, we are moving the pairs to a pasture that is more remote and heavily infested with coyotes.  I'm thinking a donkey in the pasture would be a good idea. Texas Dude..  The calves we're having would certainly make a...

    Early Calves

Anyone else getting lots of early calves?  Our cows aren't supposed to start calving until Sept 1, but we're probably already 1/3 done!  Watched SUNUP (OK State show)  and they did a piece informing those of us in the heat to be ready early, because studies they've done show the heat seems to...

    Color possibilities

Thanks for the posts and I think I've solved the mystery.  Heres what I had going on....  checked cows yesterday to find 4 new calves.  Black cow w/black calf... gray cow w/gray calf... gray cow w/lt gray calf and black calf... black cow trying to claim every calf in the pasture and bawling and...

Cattle shot, killed with bow and arrow: Oklahoma

I wouldn't expect much in the way of punishment.  Okllahoma has gone soft... if you're a pharmacist and you're being robbed at gunpoint you can't even defend yourself and your employees!  These two will probably walk...

    Working chutes

Check these out.  http://www.stampedesteel.com/ Absolutely hands down the best chute I've ever seen.    Whoever designed these chutes has worked alot of cattle.  The latches all work smoothly, no sticking or binding... levers are where you need them to be... features that keep cattle from...
