2012 Sale Day - Larrison Farms Interview - Online Sale Preview

How about you clutter up the classified section with all your promotional videos? There isn't anything much more boring than opening a post and seeing only a link to something someone is trying to sell - I guess it could be more boring if the link took you to toilet bowl cleaner :o ::)

Just curious - since Missouri does not require branding of cattle for identification and since branding is currently a hot button issue among animal welfare experts, why did you decide to brand?

OK I'm confused - you say being able to register a calf without performance numbers is the problem - yet that is exactly what you do because the ASA WHR is "too pricey" - hmmm Eldridge Cleaver's wife said it best and first and btw how do you know there are no "actual performance numbers" - can...

I report data on all my calves - the calves I register and the calves I don't. The calves that go to the feedlot and the calves that go to a 4H kid, the calves that go to the bull test and the calves sold as bulls off the farm, the heifers that I retain and the heifers that I sell - that my...

Weaning Feeder Calves at 3 months old?

At 3 months of age (actually 2 months of age) the calf is physiologically capable of being weaned. To be successful at an early age one should use low stress weaning methods (fence line or 2 step weaning), make sure calves are eating sufficient creep prior to weaning, that they are accustomed to...

I am not sure how you differentiate whole herd from performance reporting - IMHO whole herd reporting is inclusive of performance and includes information on dam (did not calve, why?) as well as reason cows have left the herd (ie infertile, bad attitude, injury, sold etc) If the information is...

Since I have no idea how these new numbers are created nor what they mean I can't really speak to them but the more animals included from the more herds the less one animal matters in the overall scheme (however we are really talking whole herd reporting not pick and choose). For example look...

Steer is limping for the third time, doesn't seem to heal..any advice

not sure what you mean by this? are you saying the heel is real low and it throws the claw separation up or that the distal part of the toes (ie the ends) are thick so the claws ride higher?? picture?? actually a picture of his feet would be great - side, front and back :)

Steer is limping for the third time, doesn't seem to heal..any advice

The best thing you can do for this steer is exactly what you are planning to do - get him on the table and examine his feet - how does he respond to hoof testers?  if he has an abscess or a bruise it should be pealed out. If there are no abnormalities in/on his feet then start looking elsewhere...

    PHA and TH bulls

I sent FCC a link to some articles - hopefully they will be helpful to him A point to emphasize - especially when someone says "well this cow family never has calves dead from a lethal recessive defect even thought we always mate carriers to carriers" the risk is the same for every single...

Well the old adage if you can't dazzle 'em with facts dazzle 'em with bull****! I have read what okotoks posted about what these numbers mean, I have read what I can find on the ASA web site (which is identical to what okotoks posted) but nowhere can I find anything about how these numbers were...

I think the biggest problem with these numbers and new system (besides the amazing confusion ;) is that the ASA does not require submission of data from the entire herd, even if you are in the WHR, in fact you can add and drop cows at will - what is required is that you pay an annual fee for any...

    Ultrasound Question

Identifying the sex of the fetus by ultrasound depends on identifying the genital tubercule - which is located under the tail in females and behind the umbilical cord in males - and appears first  after 50 days and is basically a bilobed white structure generally seen fleetingly - you need a...
