    soundest bull

My bull I bought from Mike out of Marketman makes them very sound.  He does not make them clubby, but sound and later we will breed the heifers to clubby bulls but not the first time.  We have 4 that we put with a bull that is an Ali Chi-Angus bull who's calves weighed 45-58 lbs last Fall.  One...

Breeding Maine heifers for club calves

I do not think there will be a problem with Smokin Joe.  I talked to a fellow who bred several heifers to him and did not have one problem.  I bred some heifers to him in December.  I used his dad and grandsire and never had one problem.  I heard stories but never saw a problem.  I have used...

    Open Bar

What is his frame score?  What is his mature weight?  Will he downsize cattle?  How is his disposition, especially on the chi/angus crosses?

Pearl Millet for Hay in North Missouri

Any of the hay grazing type products take a while to cure out.  It will save you a great deal of time and probably quality of hay to have it go through a conditioner.  If not lay it down as spread out as you can then rake it in a windrow.  Cut it up high enough off the ground, too.  I love the...

    Bushy Park catalogue

I like the feed conversion, growth factors, etc.  I do hope the genetic Testing works, but I like the actual feed lot test.  I believe such test are of great value. I have had bulls, rams, and boars that grew well and out grew their peers, but did not pass that on.  I have had sires that the...

    Bushy Park catalogue

How many of you got a catalogue from Bushy Park? I would love someone to take the time to explain "Gene-Star" testing and what should a person look for: 1.  For Breeding Show cattle. 2.  For Market Show steers. 3.  For the ranch and feed lot industry. I am 65 years old and believe that such...

    help needed bad...

A friend of mine ran test on feed lot cattle and if they ate twine, most of them had it there when they were killed.  I try to pick my twine all up and burn it.  I have pulled bags out of little calves that were chewing on them and had swallowed the larger portion.  I thing Rusty is correct...

    Steer will not eat grain

Did you recently separate the calf from other or another calf?  This will knock them off feed sometimes.

    PETA N/C

If you ever have an encounter with a PETA representative, ask them how many dogs and cats that they helped to be adopted the last year, then ask them how much money was donated to them through contributions to the Humane Society, then ask how many animals did they put to sleep, then ask them...

    Yellow Jackets calves temperment

I second what Chambero said.  I would guess that any bull can have a bad egg head once in a while.  His granddad was Habanero and he had some egg heads, but Lifeline calves seem to have great dispositions.  My bull is a lifeline by a Jazz cow, so he his a double bred Habanero.  When I weaned him...

Texas family lose their car while at the Youth Maine meeting

A bizarre thing happened Saturday, the Hawes family, who are active Jr. Members of the Texas Maine Anjou Association, lost their suburban in the parking lot to a fire while at the Jr. Maine meeting. They are the family that bred the bull Ice Pick. They are really good people. I think they have...

    ZNT's New Web Site Format

I have to go to school next week to get my operators license for our little water system north of Vernon.  I will be taking extension classes from A & M and will get to the show late.  Hope to see you on Saturday anyway..... best wishes.  I like you new bull and am sure this is the one you told...

What to breed a chi cow to

Triple X would give you what you want and he is registered as a Chi and Maine.  I used Hard Core on some of my chi's and the calves were small but I know others have had large calves from him.  I think my calves from that cross are as good as anyones.  My Chi's had fair hair but the calves from...

    calf off feed

I sold a calf to some kids and they took the calf last Friday and had his scurs sugically removed one month before they show him.  I would not have done that but be that as it may.  The calf is not eating and they want some advice.  What is your experience with something like this?

Did any of you get the catalogue from The Western Elite Female Sale? I got mine today.  Loved the cow photos.

    Polled Pinzgauer Bull

One of the best calves I ever bought for wheat pasture was your breed.  Do they all really grow like he did?  He was also polled and outgrew ever calf we raised.  Good breed.

What bull died in Texas ----

THAT OLD AD SAID, "It's not nice to mess with mother nature." Many stud bulls die young it seems to me.  Also, there are those that die young on the farm due to fighting.  I have used natural bulls 10 years without any problems.  Some ranchers will not look at a bull over 3 due to many things...

Which Habanero son makes the best females?

I like the Lifelines but have not had any Kadabra heifers.  I have had good Jazz cows but some were large and had big calves, and a one I did not like the way she walked.  That could have been the dam's problem as she was not my cow and I never saw the cow but bought the bred heifer.  She never...
