I just bought some ground. Its highly erodable but had a bean crop on it last year. I was thinking of planting most of it in Orchard Grass and Lespedaza.
But I do have a small field 6 acres or so and was wondering about planting peal millet for hay. Hopefully 2 cuttings then some grazing in early fall. All I have is a disc mower not a conditioner and was wondering if I would ever be able to get it dried down. I would plan to try and cut it before the heading out stage or cutting it short when plants reach 2-3 feet in height to aide it getting it dry.
Anyone with experince on this. Maybe german millet would be better since its easier to dry down or maybe don't mess with any of it and plant some grass. Suggestions.
thanks
