I am amazed at what nutrition can do for a calf. The show feeds that are available.....air conditioned units for livestock. I wonder what it costs to feed a calf from 3 months old(actual age) to say the 2 year old bull in the promotion photo.

I was always interested in lactose tolerance in humans. Us honkies lucked out.

We run 100 mama's. We don't band until after weaning. It gives the calves to reach their potential. It does have it's problems I guess.

Interesting to me that cattle.........will have an individual that shows up that is just different. If it's different in a good way.......breeders tend to select for it. Then lines develop like TH, PHA, etc etc.. Seems like a few half brother-half sister matings should be done by breeders as...

R180 sounds familiar. Was there a show heifer that had that number.

I wish that there were more people using Angus and Red Angus cattle in the appendix Shorthorn program. Instead everybody started shooting for blue roans which is a terminal program.  I've got 100 cows in the Red Angus-Shorthorn composite deal that is really rolling now after 12 years. It's hard...
