As some of you may remember, I'm trying to sell my small, cool farm. It's located about 25 miles east of Michigan State University and just 4 miles from an I-96 exit. It's right in the middle of just about everything distance-wise and is well set up for cattle or horses. 15 acres, 2 barns...
Well, sh---, Justin! Why don't you come to Michigan for school and keep her at my place!! I'd LOVE to have you in the barn! MSU - 25 minutes down the road! Anyone else heading to Michigan State U who needs a place, let me know!
I'll just make one last comment: The really sad thing is that you think that "....this was a useless situation voicing my opion (sic) on here." This forum is made up of people in all differenr kinds of cattle raising/showing/selling, all different an varying ages (from kids to old farts like...
My impression from your original post is that you 'are' talking about your or someone's kids with your reference to 4H. So, my question to you is: Are you only showing at your local fair in the 4H division or do you also go out to larger, open-type shows?/expos? If you do go out and the...
Almost forgot, if you haven't already found it, this site give some good information on requirements for producers and more: http://www.countryoforiginlabel.org
Agreed. But if you can't get out at 10 am, at the very least be sure the sun is behind you so it's shining on the side of the cow you're trying to photograph. Even better is to shoot on a cloudy day.
As you've discovered, photographing black cattle can be very challenging. I agree w/Knabe on the first two pics - I prefer the first one. The second one looks washed out. On this new one of the full brother, I think that, although you took his suggestion on trying to get the feet placed, I...
Thanks for the fun topic, RW! I've often thought of just what I realistically would do with my share (after the government takes most of it!) if I won. At 90 million or so, I'd still have a substantial stake. So, here goes:
1. Pay off every debt I have.
2. Help my kids pay off theirs
3. ...
You may also want to revisit the whole COOL issue. Why are the packers SO opposed to it and why was it SO difficult to get through congress? The American public deserves to know where their food/meat is born, raised, and slaughtered. And why is the actual label, now that it's finally in...
I've gotta agree. I also have a little trouble relating to the very young posters here. Young, like 15 to 20 yr olds. Nothing wrong with 'em and I 'am' happy to see good young people coming up in the cattle industry. I just don't seem to have much to say to/with 'em.
I know Pete personally, if it's the same Pete who lives in Michigan, anyway. If it's him, he raises Angus cattle and from what I've seen likes a pretty balanced, moderate, functional animal. I've never shown under him, though.
I played with the magnetic lasso feature but it had a real hard time even with the most sensitive settings. Lots of blacks all over and the legs were especially troubesome. here are lots of places on the photo where the definition on different colored borders is very hard to find. And, it...
