So,

Those of you handy with photoshop.  Is it possible to make the black backdrop another color without tracing the calf?  My son got reserve with a prospect at a small show, but the backdrop was black.  Since the calf was black, it kind of makes it difficult.  I took a picture to see if the kids could play with the colors and make it show, but no time so far.

Is anyone up to the challange?  Or is it easy.

I can email of copy of the posted picture if it would help.

Hey logan, thanks.

I'm not steady at all to trace it.  It is no big deal, just figured there is probably a way to "auto trace" somehow.  Or maybe blow it up so that the finished picture doesn't show wavey lines.  I just thought I would ask.

magnetic lasso.

I played with the magnetic lasso feature but it had a real hard time even with the most sensitive settings.  Lots of blacks all over and the legs were especially troubesome.  here are lots of places on the photo where the definition on different colored borders is very hard to find. And, it looks like the lens had some sort of dirt/drops/blobs on it which also made it a challenge as to quality of the finished product.  So much so that, as you can see, this amateur decided against publishing my attempt!  I think a real expert could, possibly, separate the picture into layers and, then, work on each layer separately.  I don't have the ability to do that, though.

Search for "You suck at Photoshop" on youtube for some very funny and informative tutorials on using Photoshop.

Hey there we go.

looks like you played with colors more than "magic lasso".

Now if only my son (age 15) would believe me that we should set the calf up in front of the black background that we can change it later....

Thanks again!

No, it was a series of magnetic lasso, and then working with curves.  Finished with burning, and some clone stamp.  You are welcome.
