New Texas Club Calf Association Heifer Breed - Lowline Angus

Hey, Doc, I'm not TJ but the Lebanon show is Sat, May 16, at 2:00 pm.  At 10:30 am same day is a show clinic and following the show, there will be a sale of a small, select group of Lowlines.  You can see details at either www.twinoakscattlecompany.com, or at www.easternlowline.com.

    Conception rates on Sexed Semen

You probably mean fewer embryos, not fewer eggs.  You know, the eggs get super ovulated from the flush cow, the sperm fertilize the eggs, and, bingo, embryos.  If there's less sperm available from sexed straws, you'd get fewer embryos from the same number of eggs because some of the eggs would...

Could you expand a little on what's happening?

Can I do anything to help this calf?

One more concern other than the heifer kicking at her is smashing her with her head.  Kicking is only one way to get a calf away that a dam doesn't want.  I wouldn't leave them alone unless the cow is tied AND she's hobbled.  I've seen mother cows that didn't want the calves kill them by using...

    Heifer gone nuts

Timeline?  Age of heifer?  What were "yawl" doing when she lost it?  Need more info.

    Help

Agreed!  And just an aside, the original post said the father "banned" the bulls.  Heck, being just a 'woman' I figured he disallowed the bulls from remaining in the herd and breeding the cows!  You know, like banning certain books from high school libraries!   (lol)  Who knew he was talking...

In WY that would be called lazy C slash

Looks like J hanging K to me.

    SP Brand Board?

Thanks.  When I moved to WY and decided to get my own brand for the cattle, I went to Cheyenne, to the Brand Office, and sat and drew brands, submitted them on the spot, and did it over and over until I came up with one that was available where I wanted it on the critter.  Rib brands aren't as...

    SP Brand Board?

I'm not too good at drawing with the keyboard letters but it represents the Tetons as I got the brand when I lived in Jackson, WY.  The 'D' is a little bigger and the peaks are a little more spread on the real iron.  It's a one iron with the way the electric iron was made.  It goes on the left...

No one feels like posting? Me neither.

Yeah, and smacking us with one of her new, very large wings if we get out of line!

    RED

I'm shocked and so saddened by this news.  My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who knew, didn't know, and loved her.  I never had the honor of meeting her in person but felt loved and respected by her perhaps more than by others that I 'do' know personally.  I'm crushed and teary.  I was...

How do you want to go?

Hey, Terry, one of my best ever horses was also named "Dunny".  A red dun gelding that literally taught me to rope.  He did everything - all I had to do was throw the rope and pull the slack!  He did everything else!  And, I didn't learn to rope 'til I was in my 50's!  Thanks to Dunny, I still...

    Pictures: Grant's Show Heifer!

I really like this heifer!  Frankly, if she had 3 legs and 2 heads, I'd love her for her disposition with that little boy!  Well, exaggerating a little, but disposition can be a rare commodity!  BTW, my grandson's name is Grant!  He doesn't 'do' cattle, though.  He does hockey and does it very...

How do you want to go?

I like your style, box6!!  My kids (well, ok, they're not kids anymore!) know that my wishes are to be cremated and then scattered either in the Tetons (if either of them are still able to climb up that high) or in Cache Creek, east of Jackson, WY, in the Bridger Teton Nat'l Forest.  After the...

    pine needles

Generally, cows and pine needles are a bad combination.  The pine needles can cause pregnant cows to abort.  You can "Google" for more info.  I'd get 'em off the pasture where they can get to the needles. Even cows getting the best nutrition will eat them.

    Friday the 13th

Ditto to Terry's comments.  I had a heifer do the same thing.  The Vet put her back together and I held her out from the bull for 3 months.  Mostly because I like my calving intervals to remain constant.  When I turned her in, she bred back and calved successfully on her own.  She's calved...
