    BC Lookout heifer

Pretty nice heifer.  If I would change her I would make her more level through her hip and she gets a little high in her growth bone.  Still, a very useful type of heifer.

    Angus to ad Style?!?!?!?

An unproven bull that I used this year was Style.  I'll be having calves by him from February to April so I should be able give you a heads up pretty soon.  When I saw him in Denver I thought that he was the coolest bull I'd seen in a long time.

    Angus to ad Style?!?!?!?

I don't think I'll use him again.  The calves were huge and really inconsistent phenotype for me.  I had one really good show heifer out of him and the rest of the calves were duds.  I do recall one rascal coming out weighing 130 lbs. and backwards.  His dam hadn't had a calf over 83lbs. before...

buying my first blower, advice needed.

I have four blowers, all sullivan air express.  I bought one used about six years ago and haven't had a problem with it.  Sullivans do refurbish them.  I don't know if I just got lucky or buying them used is the way to go.  When I use one at home the used one is always the one I grab.  I guess I...

    SLC Sooner 101M Heifer

Knabe, I've heard you talk about Sooner daughters lack-o-milk in previous posts.  I walked a pasture with a guy who was complaning that he had a Sooner daughter out of a cow that milked like a holstein.  Needless to say, she didn't inherit her mother's milking ability.

    help on angus bulls

If I had my pick out of that bunch I'd go Net Worth all the way.  The only thing I would watch out for is the disposition of the female.  If she's got some attitude I wouldn't do it.

    Best set of Cows

Whitestone Krebs has the best set of angus cows I've ever seen.  Truly amazing cows!

    Buying Bred Females

The first thing I look at when I buy a cow is the udder.  If their udder is garbage you'll end up hating her!  The next thing I look at are their feet and legs.  I was taught to build them from the ground up.  Once I consider them sound I look for femininity and volume. In my experience, you...

    Truck question

Ok, I'm finally going to throw in the towel on my 6.0 Powerstroke.  I just can't afford the maintenance and the wife told me to find something else.  I'm looking at 2007/2008 chevy Duramax trucks.  Can I hear some of the good and the bad about these trucks?  Can't believe I'm thinking about...

    dirt vs. grass

If I had grass at all times I'd run them on that year around.  Unfortunately, in Illinois we get every type of weather imaginable and in February, March, and April we get the mud.  My new cattle runs will get a test.  They are 60 wide by 450 long and I still think I made them too short.

    dyeing white flanks?

You're right about the big shows not allowing dye.  However, I think that 95% of the Angus at the NWSS were dyed.  Most of them were dyed on the grounds.  Heck, I saw one guy dying the cattle in his stall.  That was a little bold for me!  I believe at most county fairs you can dye.  Heck you...

    OCC Legend Heifer

I haven't seen a ton of Ohlde bred females in my neck of the woods but the ones that I do see aren't real powerful.  It seems like to me(and this is going off of just a few calves) that they have a ton of middle, moderate, and are fairly good in their lines but they just need to be bred to a...

    dyeing white flanks?

It will make them look deeper flanked.  I don't do it.  I have dyed navals.  The white didn't go past the naval but anytime you have any white on a naval and the heifer is angus it's like a big scandal is going on.  I just got tired of having to break out the rule book and tell all of the...

    Angus genetic defects?

So the breed is inconclusive?  They are black hided.  That narrows it down.

    Angus genetic defects?

Interesting.  I know that there are high altitude cattle for the mountains but would this be a genetic defect?  I think that these cattle are just more resistant to brisket disease which is a problem in that certain regions.

    Adjusting birthdates on Purebred cattle

The bad part about the suspicion that goes with moved birth dates is the chance that the breeder isn't lying about the age.  We have a bull this year that I was accused of moving dates around on.  Is the bull big and more mature looking...Yes. Did I change his date?  Absolutely not!  It was...

    SteerPlanet Creates New Friendships

I haven't met alot of people face to face.  However, the people I have met are good people.  I had the pleasure of meeting Justin Olson this year and look forward to throwing him some work!  BTW, Justin if you read this can you PM me your phone number?  When I lost my phone in the State Fair...

    QLC LaGrand Forum...?

I've got a daughter in production now and she is doing really well.  She had one of our top heifers this year.  She was an ok show heifer but I'm pretty sure she will make her mark as a cow.
