Depends on what kind of show it was.  I've seen plenty of purebred shorthorn take supreme heifer.  I've been seeing alot of chromed up steers doing well also.  I think color is playing less of a role in the showring as it once did.

I don't have much experience with Blow and go shows but can you use any non Aerosol products for holding the hair?

I think it makes for a more natural black look that matches the animal.  I personally think that painting over white with black makes the leg look more grey than black.

You really want to make sure you do this.  We use the auburn color at sullivans for our color.

I wouldn't worry about it until after she calves.  I've got a cow that I swear is open every year until she bags down a week before she calves.  She has enough milk for two calves.
