    ? about Imprint

he has worked best on moderate angus cows, but i think you could get along with him on moderate modern simmi genetics.  i could see him working pretty well on Dream on genetics that have some moderation of frame and body depth.  he will pretty them up for you and they make nice cows.

    picture of Smilin Bob Calf

what kind of cows is Smilin bob working  best on?  i have a cane to use but haven't seen any calves.  Loved the bull in person.  downsizing or make them bigger?  hair quality follow cow or does he add fuzz?  bone?, belly?

    Xerox and Shiver

have a couple Shivers this year.  came small and are really taking off.  Good Cattle.  doesn't appear to make them shaggy haired, but his pedigree would suggest that as well.  good solid cattle.  will retain the females and probably save the bulls. i would use him cautiously on heifers without...

    predator

i have seen 70 to 140+.  the big bw calves on heat wave females.  I really like the cattle, probably my better end of heifer calves.  Stout boned and nice blanced with plenty of muscle.  I would not use him on heifers, but on cows with no serious bw issues should be really nice.

    Dirty Hairy females

i have one.  out of a good milking angus x fear this angus.  she milks like a barn cat.  I have been burnt by strictly business genetics on milk before.  this one just reinforces my past experience.  No more of them for momma cows for me.

DUCK..... this post could get nasty

although $100 seems high. the market is being determined.  I think it is brilliant on the part of Wade and his owners to sell the first collections via auction.  How many people were on the waiting list for Walks Alone when he first hit the scene?  and how many were mad at his owners for being...

mis-presented - fluke or trend this year?

I have been hearing of lots of abnormal presentations this year at the start of the calving season.  Last night had 2 in a row upside down on first calf heifers.  lost the first one, took the 2nd out the side.  Out of 10 heifers that have calved so far in this group.  5 dead.  2 updside down, 2...

    Market on bred heifers

Kovar Farms commercial bred heifer sale in Tama, IA last week was very good. these are western origin heifers that are on complete pfizer health program, Ai's and ultrasounded with calf sex and due dates.  they sell in groups of 10 according to heifer size, due date and calf sex.  high end on...

What to bred a sunseeker x mossy oak cow to?

breed her simmental.  get a foundation simmi, inject some growth and maternal and stay away from TH and PHA which are both concerns with her pedigree.  I bred my Sunseekers to Trademark and have 1 heifer on ground so far, which i like pretty well. might also think about moderate calving ease...

Taking Care of Someones Cows "Cost Per Head Per Day"

with increasing feed and machinery expense, i think you should expect $2/hd/day in a commercial environment.  IE, no special treatment/feed.  I figure if they just get grass in the summer and hay in the winter, you already have $1/hd/day,  add in mineral ($85/year), vaccine, preg check, etc then...

    Replacement heifer mangement help

I would agree with Will.  we are feeding about 7lbs/hd of dry gluten corn mix.  40% CGF, which at limited feeding is ok.  you meet all protein and energy requirement and cheapen the ration.  Free choice decent grass hay and heifers are in good shape.  No need to make them fat before breeding season.

4 heifers to breed...looking for bull suggestions!?

take a look at Doc.  owned by Wade Rodgers, Maas and Sievers.  I have had really good luck on clubby bred heifers with him.  will maintain look and hair and they come easy.  lots of the major players in the midwest are using him with great success.

    Hannibal daughter

stay away from doubling up on WMW.  That is walking the edge a little too closely.  I think you run the risk of monkey mouth and leg swingers.

Whats Hairy Bear working on the best?

he didn't work on anything for me.  simply not enough to them.  I used him on clubby TH carriers, clean sim/angus and chi/angus and was severely disappointed in all of them.  I am going to Yellow Jacket for clubby clean genetics

    sunseeker cows

I have several sunseeker cows.  they are all out of maternally based sim/angus and maine/angus cows. they milk well with decent udders.  I would be critical of structure and the maternal orientation of the dam, but sure wouldn't be afraid of them to make decent cows.

    Photography - "Fixing pictures"

i have found that most of the catalog pics are simply cleaned up if any photoshopping was done.  Promo pics on the other hand are a different animal.  I would ague that some of the prominent photographers are more bold about the practice than others, but when buying semen or an animal that looks...
