    Polled Pursuit photo?

Does anyone have a pic of the Maine Anjou Bull Polled Pursuit.  I know he was heavily used, still shows up numerous times in current pedigrees.  What are your thoughts on him and what kind of cattle did he throw.  Particulary interested in structure and body depth. Any issue with "leg swingers"?

Great article!!! Even though it is old, it remains very true today.  There is a lot of truth in his words.

3 legged calf. genetics or fluke

what was the breeding on the calf you had last year that was similar?  I am curious to know if there are common ancestors.  that would help to answer the original question.

3 legged calf. genetics or fluke

Calf born without hind leg below the hock.  the other hind leg is deformed at the hoof.  enlarge the pic and look hard.  i drug him through the mud b4 the picture and he blends in with the driveway.  by best estimate this calf was born about 21 days early.  is clean of TH and PHA genetics. ...

    Grizzly Calving Reports

haven't had any myself but have heard some horror stories.  there is another thread on here that discusses it.  I don't buy him as calving ease.  neither his look or pedigree indicate it.  I would say that the calves i have seen cettainly look good enough, just not "easy" calving.

    best fitters

i would submit that fitting is merely the icing on the cake.  not hard with today's products when you have a superior clip job to start with.  That being said a few young guns that stand out to me are JR Spear, Chad Day, Tacy Goretska and Wade Rodgers.  I also think Dana Pruess from Pryor crew...

    Lautner's Thriller Bull

Thriller is out of a really stout Heat Wave cow.  I wouldn't even dream of trying him on heifers.  after about 3 years of calves and confirmed low birth weights and calving ease you might think about using him

    Who would you clone?

i just came across this bit of research and thought it pretty pertinent and while searching for a thread to attach, thought that the newer members might get a kick out of it. http://www.ncsu.edu/news/press_releases/03_04/113.htm this is pretty old data, but couldn't find it in discussions...

What % of calves will sell??

based on last year, and we have been doing this for a while, we will sell about 25% of the calves born at premiums to the feeder market.  Take into account, time, AI cost, embyo costs, creep feed, etc and you can hope to break even vs selling high growth feeders, without selling one for big...

    Doc

i had my first Doc (OCC Doctor x Sim/angus) last night.  Heifer calf on a Heat Wave x Wonder 1st calf heifer. 7 days early to AI date.  wieghed on the scale about 3 hours after unassisted birth at 62 lbs.  good vigor, boxy, nice boned, hariy calf.  i am very pleased.  hope the rest of the...

    grizzly calves

My point exactly jbw.  He only has 1 shot of calving ease genetics in his immediate pedigree and does not have the look and build of a calving ease sire.  I think you can get along ok with him, sans any birthweight issues on the females that you breed him to, but i would not expect that pedigree...

    Doc

Jeff Maas and Lonny Sievers own him now.  Sievers had a nice set last year on bred heifers.  attached pdf flyer. I have him bred to my clubby heifers this year.  will start this weekend.  He is moderate, big middled and correctly made.  stout for his pedigree and looks to maintain hair.  I don't...
