Pasture Pics from NYK *pic heavy

Thank you I'm pretty proud of the group we've got.  I'm near Brandon Manitoba, Canada. About 2.5 hours north east of Minot ND.

Last one.  Last 2 pics are March calves that are getting better everyday.

Pasture Pics from NYK *pic heavy

First 2 pics are the same cow.  First calver I'm excited about.  Next is her calf.  Last is my junior herdsire.

Pasture Pics from NYK *pic heavy

Been snapping some pics on my cell lately of the cows.  Thought I'd share.  Some pretty promising young cows in this bunch and some good old proven girls too.

    Pasture pics *resized

Cows look to be the right type to me.  Keep up the good fight.  I know that it feels like a long process.

    Angus Heifer Progression

Well she's 3 years old now and I don't have any complaints.  Sold her first bull for double what I paid for her and she's doing an awesome job on her calf this year.  He's sired by the bull in my avatar pic, NYK Graceland.  I love his masculinity for a Feb 25th calf.

    Flush Option for Angus Cow?

Thanks.  I'm a fan of her as well.  The different twist in her pedigree (sire is from Argentina) could make her an interesting breeding piece if she can transmit her look to her offspring as consistently as her mother does.

    Flush Option for Angus Cow?

We put in 8 2T x Resource embryos last year and got 3 bulls and one heifer.  The heifer looks like she's going to pay for the flush by herself.  The bulls are good too but she's outstanding.  9 more embryos went in this spring so hopefully we get more like her! Also pictured is the yearling 2T...

Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer

Mark - I don't think there's a true diluter gene in the woodpile.  Most if not all hetero black limo calves come with a grey tinge when they are younger.  Especially true if a more "fawn colored" (like his dam) red animal is in the pedigree.  Heck some of the homo black calves are kind of grey...

Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer

I promised a pic of the Architect calves so here's one. He's a real solid muscled bull calf with above average growth, goot top and structure, but maybe more leather up front that I'd like.  We'll see how he matures.  He's out of a red purebred (the 150 cow in the 2nd pic).  The rest are at the...

Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer

Here's a pic of the dam to the first heifer that I snapped last night on my phone.  She's sired by EXLR Total Control.  She's quite the beast.

    Herd Building Preference

Muddy Creek: I am in year 5 and I can tell you, the strain on cash flow is improving but only slightly.  Only once you reach your desired number of females will it really ever improve because you need to keep sourcing a few every year (while culling outliers), essentially using every extra...

    Herd Building Preference

Good post.  I'm currently trying hard to build up a herd and have used a combination of avenues but the most effective would be purchasing older, proven cows.  Mostly I have sourced them via total herd dispersals where nothing is held back.  Then I have been keeping heifers off those cows to...

Shorthorn bull from a calf to yearling progression

Looks pretty solid made.  Like Kibler said, I would have thought he would have been deeper.  He may still grow into himself some more.  Looks to have good feet.

Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer

Thanks for the comments guys.  I'm certainly proud of these girls and I believe they have a future ahead of them in both the show ring and the pasture raising bulls. I'll get some pics of the Architect calves when I get a chance.  They've got some grow and style to them right now.  Time will...

Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer

2 updates.  1. Cam Poll Bridesmaid (the heifer that I first posted) had a real nice ~80lb heifer calf off of Architect and he has worked nicely on heifers in general.  Calves look promising (sorry no pics).  Her udder looks great so we'll be campaigning the pair this year.  I'll get some pics...

Would you keep/buy a twin as a herd bull?

Don't cull him just because he's a twin.  Many twins have gone on to be top sellers and dominant herdsires.  For an example look up Soo Line Motive 9016 (he's a twin).

What do you think of the website I made?

Website looks great Larissa.  I've personally used both WIX and Weebly and I much prefer the weebly sites' look and feel.  Also if using the free version, the ads are much less intrusive.  Just an FYI for anyone looking to try one.

led chute lights at Iowa Beef expo

Awesome.  Thanks.  I see our local Home Depot has the 2-light set in stock.  I might try them out for next weekend.
