Size of Neck Sweat to Order

Just looked this up on their site and found it says available in 4 sizes, but the drop down is missing large, as you said. I wonder if they just don't have any larges in stock right now? Regardless, I would probably go with an extra large anyway. It might seem big, but because of the Velcro, you...

HORSEN AROUND TIME --PLEASE join in

Thought I'd post a couple of my old ponies! The gelding on the left in both is a 15 yo CPO's Appaloosa who was a top 5 rope horse in the nation in the late 09s. The one on the right is a 9 yo QH gelding I used for jackpot barrels. Both are horses I bred, trained and showed myself!

    who would you use?

If you are not set on using a clubby bull right out of the gate, I would recommend an Angus bull. We love the results when we cross BR Midland or a son on Limi or Limi based cows. This should produce calves that can compete and give you a consistant base to go forward with club breeding.

how to keep a heifer fresh

Turn her out! Since she's black, do it on a couple of overcast and cool or rainy days, not just over night. This way you won't have to take the risk of changing up feed this late in the game. This is what we do with all of our show string once we get them where we want 'em. It helps tone them...

    Help Me Vote Obama Out

Couldn't agree more! This is the first time in years that our ag property taxes have gone down, even with assessment values staying the same or going up! Farmers got it tough, nice to see someone has got our back!

    Hair Dye

If you are showing the animal multiple times, I would recommend the black velvet from Sullivan's. It doesn't seem to be as hard on the hair if you have to do it a couple of times in one show season. If you do go with the human hair dye, I suggest Revlon in soft black. It is cheap enough and...

    The Ultimate Feed Lot Steer

We have had awesome luck with the Angus/ Limousin/ Char cross. My brother runs our commercial division and he uses a  Limi bull on a grade Angus heard. The resulting steers are marketed and the replacements are then bred to a Char or Char composite bull. All calves from this group are terminal...

    future in bull business..

It can be done, but it is a huge investment of time and money. Also, you have to start with strong females before anyone will take your bulls seriously- no matter if it is show animal or commercial stock. When you say future, it is just that! It would definitely fall into the category of LONG...

    Preferred Preg Check Method?

We have used blood test for a few years now since we only AI a small group each year. The thing I will say as that if a group of "never miss" cows come up open, call the lab and re-test. We learned that lesson the hard way! Last year 3 of our very best cows came up open by blood test. They were...

Saskvalley Imperative 33X home in Illinois!

Not to highjack this thread, but Iowa sorta sucks for this in my book. We got stopped for a burnt out ID light in Iowa on our way to Denver this year. The gentleman from the state patrol informed us that even thought we were hauling our own cattle, we needed a log book?? We did not get ticketed...

Need advice - Breaking a calf

I would suggest maybe finding your calf a friend! Sometimes when we have a really nervous one, it gets paired up with a quiet one for everything it does- leading, washing, tie up time, you name it. We don't tie them like you would with a donkey, but just keep them together 24/7. We usually end...

BEET PULP AND BREEDING HEIFER ISSUES

I have never heard of beet pulp causing conception problems. However, according to our AI tech, flax seed oil can have a negative impact. It is common in most show feeds and when feed heavy, can cause heifers to not settle. Just backing off the feed for about 2 weeks before AI'ing has been...

Wow! I love the look of that little guy and I'm sure someone will snap him up quick as a bull. I am thinking of using up some Amen we had in the tank on a couple of low percentage Limis, so I am curious also what peoples' luck has been with him.

    N/C goat registration

Try this link for the specifics on what is acceptable for producing percentage kids for the ABGA.    http://www.abga.org/page.php?pageid=7 If you have more questions, I would call the American Boer Goat Association office. We started raising purebred breeding stock about 5 years ago, and found...
