What do you all think about this calf?  He's a Jakes Proud Jazz x Ali/Power Plus heifer.  Think he'd make a good bull?  Or should I steer him?

Thank you folks for the ideas!  I thought of Bojo...but hadn't thought of Yellow Jacket.  I had a "short" list that included Lifeline, Troubadour (if I can locate it), Chopper, Red Rider (new Griswold bull) and Bojo.  What are your thoughts on that short list?

Another idea I have heard of (and used) was to revaccinate with 8-Way Blackleg.  I had a heifer bloat off and on for about a month or so.  Talked to a judge friend and he said try it...I did and knock on wood-the heifer mentioned has not bloated since and it has been 14months since. 

Forgot that bit of information.  She is TH clean. 

What are you folks breeding your Monopoly daughters to?  I have a Monopoly X Char....she lost her 1st calf and is due in a few weeks with her 2nd calf-bred to I-80.  I am hesitant to take her back to anything that traces to HW cause I am worried of BWs.  Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

That is what worries me about him.  I was just hoping that was a an early EPD and it has gone down a little bit the more he got used.

Word I heard at Maine Jr Nationals is that next year Maines, Chis, Shorthorns and Herefords are all going to be in L'ville.  The dates were published but I didn't remember them yet. 

I have seen some calves out of him...that bull is "Loving the Business"-and he is flat good.  Calves are thick, hairy, sound and flat awesome.  They just got sold as show calves so we'll see how they pan out from there.  I bought some semen on him and will use him next year in my herd. 

I like Honor's ShowChow-Fitter's Edge and Finishing Touch.  I have also had good results with a feed called "NFL"....not sure of who makes it-but it's available at my local feed store in New Braunfels.  It's about $4-$5 cheaper than the "name brands" and just as good.

What is everyone's experience with Solid Gold, as far as calving?  Are they big?  Considering him for a few maine females....but concerned about the BWs.  Any information is appreciated.

You can look his pedigree up on the Maine Association website and it'll tell ya.  But I do believe he's polled (not 100%sure).  I just had a heifer calf out of him and she's polled...cow is scurred.

I would doubt that a cow could founder on beet pulp.  I had a cow get into the feed shed.  She ate about 2/3 of a bag of beet pulp.  She was "filled out" for a few days but still kept eating like normal.
