Sandman just wrapped up his breeding season. Between 2 herds he bred for 14 weeks and bred close to 80 females.  Not too shabby

As with any SAV bull you gotta let the smoke clear, let some early adopters use them and see which ones are actually useful.  SAV America himself isn't real big framed but as you can imagine was extremely fat. If I'm not mistaken SAV sell all their bulls untested so that's a risk the buyers take...

We started below our normal average and then the weights jumped up.  Pretty much like the weather dropped. 30 days later BWs are higher.

2 cows off to the ET center today.  New pic of N7's Mary KT 30Y and her full sister, N7's Net Mary KT 9X.  Still trying to decide on bulls. Other than docility neither need much improvement in my opinion.  9X has really clicked with Sitz Upward sons and bulls of that type (more frame and growth).

They'll come easy and they will grow well.  Our only issue with them has been feet aren't great and they can be a bit straight off the front shoulders. As far as calving ease he's the kind you're looking for.  No 60lb little midgets but how hard pulls either.  Calves are made right for calving ease.

Yup I agree with Rusty - we have canarm bowls.  Not fancy, use lots of electricity but they probably handle as much cold as anything. They're relatively cheap, easy to fix, and parts are readily available when needed.  Ritchie bowls are alright as well. I don't have any but I know lots who do.

Odds are slim he makes all of  that money back unless he turns out to be the next Final Answer and produces marketable semen for 14 years. Most of that is a tax write off for Herbster. But I can honestly say I've never seen so much buzz about a bull's price.  Good or bad, it's hard to buy that...

Interesting. I suppose that is not much different than using the tape measure for birth weights.  Head type and size usually follows pretty consistently with body type. Long narrow head -> tall narrow animal, tiny head -> tiny calf, short stout head-> short stout calf.

Agreed Mark that's a nice headed heifer, broken leg or not haha. We need an "injury prone" EPD I think  (pop)

Back to the topic of heads, here's a good example of a day old calf that has the right kind of head in my opinion.  Muzzle is almost as wide as his forehead.  Maybe a bit more set to his eyes (more hooded so you can't see them from head on) would be ideal. His mother isn't ideal in that way and...

I'm a big believer of selecting for head shape.  Wide muzzle, hooded eye, nice poll. No long heads, no pug heads.
