I am trying to find some new bulls out this year to breed my cows to, and I was wondering if anybody knew of any good ones.  I prefer not to have any Sullivan genetics in the bull. Thanks

The Canadian bulls listed before are a real good choice-ESPECIALLY if your cattle have any: maine, simmy, or clubby. For the record:We had a couple FSF Assasin calves (hiefers) very recently that seem to be very correct-and show some grow- The Bws were 80 and below. Brad Davis (Brad Davis trailer sales Mediapolis Iowa)has a proven CE double bred Cumberland bull called UB DMCC Top Fuel that really works on clubby and x-breds: and you will get really showy females that can raise a calf with the best or them.-and this bull been used by lease from Iowa to Texas to Wyoming etc. He also has a bull he calls Whitey-also proven-real good calves as well-I think hes an Eskimo Joe-this guy has really good cattle- MITCH-on here has a bull called DIEZEL-I saw him-as well as all the others-as a long yearling on cows-plus his dam- Hes a good one- got some size-very correct;and related to several generations of high selling good cattle from Mitchells family shorthorns-in Iowa-one of the better small herds IN THE BREED.- NONE of the above are typical cookie cutter breeding. Im not knocking the Sullivan deal-nobody produces that much quality in volume or probably ever will- These are just different bred cattle-More geared towards what you are breeding-because thats what Brad Davis and others are breeding. O0

Ive followed the Ill. cattle some since 1990 when I got back in shorthorns - And the :Wise, Smithers, Stone, and  Hahn cattle really have remained sort of thier own microcosms per-se: with unique contributions to the ongoing trends-and I cant forget people like Gary Caper-who has continued traditional "trends" wihout resulting on ratty hardoing cattle.O0

The older hiefer is the spitten image of him-right down to the leg cocked forward and the ears down a little just like him: put a butt on em and you are in business: thats why hes gonna work outside the purebred box-just passes the look because hes got all the old faraway genetics: HOWD he look on the Cates genetics-like thiers or like HIM? PointCreek, what kind of Shorthorn bull are you looking for? There are about 4 or 5 different breeds of Shorthorn bulls to choose from. If you can give us some of your preferences in cattle and what you want them to do for you then we could narrow it down.

I really like Coblentzs bull Ghost Rider. I wanted to buy him as a calf but charlie wanted to keep him a bull and i dont have the name needed to promote him so i didnt bid and tried to nab a heifer. He was extra stout as a calf which is something i think the shorthorn has strayed away from as TH came into play in the earlier 2000's. He was raised by Bennetts in Illinois. He is double clean as well

Mark the older heifer is out of a WHR Sonny cow that was ALL-American Winter Heifer calf in 2005 or 2006. So I think it is safe to say they look like HIM. He is also homo polled for anyone interested.

As far as Muridale Jaxson I tried to get Scot to price that bull the first time I saw a picture of him as a calf. He of course knew what he had and said he thought he would keep him. His pedigree is fool proof and hopefully Scot will post a picture of his Dam so you can see what an easy keeping cow looks like.

#1 Clubby moderate frame show
#2 Clubby large frame breeding show
#3 Commercial convenience traits moderate frame(emphasis on fertility, feet, udders, vigor first)
#4 Commercial Growth oriented moderate/large frame(emphasis on ww, yw, and power first)
#5 Mixed bag of any of the previous 4.

I wanted to post a picture of this 33X son. I just turned in his final data to the ASA. Yes he is sure the wrong color, and his BW is suitable for cows, but not heifers. However, he achieved this growth on 1 month of creep prior to weaning and 15 lbs of grain and free choice grass hay since. If he was solid red he would have sold a long time ago.

If it is growth and muscle you are after then 33X may be your answer.

Wise guy would you conside or 33x to be a sure of longer ribbed cattle or just average he looks short from his pic but it's hard to judge deep ribbed cattle in a picture

We have had a lot of success with Diamond Prophecy 21P.  He has sired some of our most outstanding females in the herd right now, as well as producing sons that have worked very well in both purebred and commercial operations.  I have attached some pictures of his daughters and the son we are using right now.  The daughters are moderate and weaning over half their body weight in the fall.  I would not classify Prophecy as a performance sire, but as a maternal sire with Maternal Calving Ease in the top 1% of the breed.    This year Prophecy 21P is being used on 80 commercial heifers.  I can hardly wait for the results!
