Has the 2017 Ft. Worth Steer judge been named yet?

I overheard a name being mentioned and I didn't catch it.

Started looking online and not having any luck what so ever.

Great first post.
You tell us what you know and will tell you what we know.

P.S.    I bet that judge is going to sell a lot of cattle between now and the show.

Not understanding what your asking?

I already bought my steer.  Just trying to figure out next years show circuit since both San Antonio and Houston judges have been named.

I do lurk only because majority my questions have been answered by looking at other posts.

My apologies if I've stepped on toes.

This comment has taken me to long to post because i have gone back and forth on what to say.  The comment " I bet that judge is going to sell a lot of cattle between now and the show." did not need to be made no matter what was meant, and I'm going to leave it at that.

Most Fort Worth steers are already bought and in someones barn. Plus with us here in Texas validation deadline is June 30. Names have been thrown out for the Judges for Fort Worth but not to closer to Deadline will they be confirmed so long after everything has to be in someones barn. It just better be a good calf no matter what.

Thank you Jconner.  I know I have a good calf (granted my opinion or I wouldn't have bought him). Was just trying to figure if my chances were hell no or a slight no.  :)

No joke this is what ive heard- im not going to cite sources but I'll say it's reputable. I'm not saying its facts im just saying what I've heard since this is obviously a giant rumor mill

I heard its a brahman breeder from fredricksburg that has never judged a major and doesn't have any skin in the game when it comes to steers

I heard nobody showed up to the meeting and one of the members had been told by this "judge" that he wanted to do it "just to try it" and that there was really nobody there to refute the idea so it was passed and confirmed and that brings us to here. Apparently it was a buddy call on the board for someone's bucket list and as a result allegedly there is a new guy judging that is in tx but has nothing to do with steers and my sources highly questioned his qualifications and said as far as what type of calf to take "close your eyes, ball your fists. And throw all the **** at the wall and hope something sticks because I have no idea"

I've been wrong before. Will admit if im wrong. Hoping im wrong. Don't care if im wrong because the major steer in my barn is a rat tai so I frankly don't care- just speaking what was around my campfire

Doug Husfeld is who the judge is.  I highly doubt that no one showed up to the meeting to decide on the judge for the greatest steer show in the world. House he has been judging shows longer than you've been on Earth, predominately brahman shows but he is no rookie.

Greatest steer show in the world?  Let's tap on the brakes just a bit before calling a hair and fitting contest the greatest steer show in the world.

Believe me, I highly respect people who can clip and fit.  It's a talent that few people have.  I just think slick sheared steers shows like Houston is a better show.

Not to mention, structure is clearly not a priority at FWSS. I know it's a market steer show and all...but Houston, KC, and several of the Midwest state fair winners would all have a pretty solid claim as being the best steer in the country.

I am going to bail him out on this, and assume the term "greatest" to mean greatest in participation and purse.  This way we don't have to argue about where the best steers are.

For the sake of conversation, I have a few friends that go south to fit at Fort Worth every year.  They have both told me that the depth of quality if unbelievable.  Sure the top end from State Fairs, KC, NAILE would be found in Ft Worth, but the heater classes at Ft Worth will go 5 or 6 deep that could stand in the Champion Drive at nearly every State Fair in the country.

I've talked to some people on this subject and tell them the same thing. I hope he comes in and does the absolute best job we have seen in quite some time. But I am not holding my breath, the man has hardly been around a show of this magnitude, brahman shows and Fort Worth are completely different there is no comparison the chance to get lost in the heater classes looking at 80 steers with 25 being real good. Again will reiterate I hope that he does a great job and finds the right ones and we don't want to mob like we did 4 years ago.
