3 generations Bull to Grandsire progeny- Shorthorn

[Shorthorn-Fed]

We have an interesting trio of March heifer calves this year as their sire's are direct lineage Bull to Grandsire with a vintage twist. We were fortunate to have calves from JT Titan 3T , Poplar Park Mist 4R and Highfield Irish Mist all hit the ground this spring and these three heifers will be making the transition from pasture to a couple shows this fall.

Yes the first one is a Titan out of a Florence cow , the second picture is a Mist 4R out of a Muffin cow and the third is an ET from Irish Mist and out one of our donor cows Goldie 3p

I can sure tell the third heifer is sired by Irish Mist. I like all three heifers. I also liked all 3 of these sires. We need a  bunch more sires like them today!

Those are very nice heifers, I love the looks of the JT Titan 3T heifer! We used a son of Titan many years ago and he left us some top producing daughters.We also used a bull linebred to Highfield Irish Mist and again he left good producing daughters. I went on some herd tours at the time Iris Mist had been used a lot and saw many daughters of him and they were great mothers with big calves at foot.

Like that top red roan heifer the best, wouldn't turn any down though!

Thank you for the compliments. I know re introducing older bloodlines can be a chance with such good current options to use through AI and our walking Bulls but our calves from the older lines fit right In. The 4R calves might be a bit more extreme/performance built than the others but they certainly hold their place. The Titan heifer has stood out in the pasture this spring and has been one of my favorites. It has been an easy decision to use more of these bloodlines (with a few other older genetics as well) through AI this spring.

I took the heifers out with my show string to the shorthorn show at AG EX in Brandon Mb, last week. They all showed well and I am pleased with how they look

Updated picture of the JT Titan 3T daughter JT Florence 6D she has progressed in my opinion very well. She was AI bred to Saskvalley Yesterday and pasture exposed to our Kaper 4508 son JT President 5A
Also from the same show a picture of a current yearling herdsire RT Diamond Cutter 49D who I can’t wait to see his calves this spring.

That Titan heifer is really growing up nicely. Very well made heifer. It'll be interested to see what frame score and mature weight she gets to, I think Shaker and Burwash on the bottom side will complement Titan quite well. Look forward to watching her grow up!

Diamond Cutter is a remarkable bull, has been since he was a calf. Can't wait to see some progeny in the spring

Thanks KF, I think she will mature out a fair size which is why I think a yesterday calf should compliment the genetics being a reasonably framed bull. Im betting with her genetics having some shorter gestation breeding she will be one of the early calvers. Her big test will be when she roughs out a manitoba winter on pasture being put to work! That’s always an easy way to find the easy doing, hardy cattle.

We certainly aren’t disappointed, her 70lb heifer calf is coming along quite well in my opinion and will be coming out to a few shows this fall with her mother and will be our consignment to the AG-EX Shorthorn sale in Brandon. Here she is pictured at 6 months.

Brilliant! That heifer is worth a lot of money, but keep her!

I have been very happy with my Yesterday progeny, possibly a bit too much frame for me out of my Spry's All Gold cows, but it's easy to make cattle smaller framed!

Breed my first group in November. Some hitting 2yrs as we have had a 3yr duration drought and they haven't got to breeding weight earlier.

I’m pretty far behind the ball on this update but here’s how the pair looked at their final show of the year at Agribition. The yesterday heifer calf sold at the National sale auction in Brandon at AG-EX to Hedley Livestock and I still wish she could have stayed on the farm. I also included an in-class picture of my bull Diamond Cutter from the same show.

That Titan sure came along to raise a big heifer like that and be in show rig-awhile ago I was jabbering about JT Titan because I thought he was one of the thickest breeding bulls from up there back in the day.The son of his breeder was describing him to me-even though he had a lot of daylight under him-hed still work on a deep female -and you can spot them a mile away O0
