A Death in My Family + a Perfect Storm

Some of you have met my father in law before.  He passed away this afternoon from cancer.  His timing, as always, was impeccable.

I pulled CIDRs yesterday on 175 cows.

It is supposed to rain heavily the next two days while we breed.

We are goung to bury him in the pasture- the pasture where the cows are currently at waiting to be bred.  It will be so wet we cant move them after breeding.  So, it looks like we'll have 175 cows ar the graveside service.  I suspect he will be grinning down from heaven watching the spectacle.

He is now at peace and probably wanted to make sure you stayed busy. Timing is never good. Those cows are a part his life and legacy. What a great place for a burial.

well, look at it on the bright side... atleast you'll have 175 already bred cows to watch the ceremony.. instead of 175 that are just coming into heat, bulling, or just out of heat.. crazy damn things during that time 'of the month'.

chambero - sorry about the loss of your FIL - I know you had a nice and unique relationship - clearly it was his choice to invite the herd to the graveside service - I am sure he is glad you made it happen...

As sad an evening as we are having, our friends are quite enthuised about helping this happen.  All we have to do is go meet with the county judge to get it recorded.  I'm sure somebody will take photos for us.  I'll get them up.  The funeral home director is jokingly griping that we are going to start a trend with this.

I think you need to bury him right in front of the working chute.  That way he can keep an eye on us for eternity to make sure we are doing everything right. I am sure going to miss him.
