Thanks for all the prayers, wed/thurs of last week were really tough, but since friday he really started to turn the corner.  The doctor was astonished on how he just started acting like a new baby.  Still not completely out of the woods, but feel very cautiously optimistic.

Here is a pic of the little guy, he just got his breathing tube removed.  Still has the iv and feeding tube, but definitely has made huge strides over last week.

Congratulations on the new addition!  I've been there, done that with the whole NICU thing when my twins were born.  Not a great experience, but definitely one that I'll never forget, nor one that I want to experience again.  19 and 23 days in the NICU was an extremely trying experience.  2 years later and I still get an anxious feeling when I hear a noise that sounds similar to the breathing monitors used in the NICU.  I feel your pain and hope things have turned the corner for you!  It is an awesome feeling when this happens

My little one before was 33 weeks, but she was a girl and girls have stronger lungs earlier and are just better fighters.  She was in for about 2 weeks and it was mainly just to get her eating well.

We could tell when this guy came out that his lungs were still immature and he developed a pnemothorax that required a helicopter ride to kc to be put on a ventilator.  It was scary, but was I very optimistic, but everyday the doctors were coming out with other possible scenarios.  We went from a possible cyst on his right lung (turned out to be air bubbles), to  that he could be having seizures (eeg came back good), to he could have spinal meningitis (had to have a spinal tap), and so on.  So far, every single time he took came back negative and he just all the sudden perked up.  His stats stayed high and they went from a ventilator, to a cpap, to just the nose cannula, and finally completely off.  We are cautiously optimistic, hoping to be able to come home soon.

You won't be able to ever convince me that prayer doesn't work, as soon as we really reached out, he turned the corner.

Congratulations Again!!!

Been there done that.  Isn't it amazing that some people have 10 kids!  It is wonderful that he is making progress.  We met one boy in ICU that we had in class all 12 years...  Both were just fine...  The doctors will follow up with your son for quite a while (at least 3 years for us...)  Just have to make sure.

We will keep praying...
