I went to my local feed mill and asked them about making the aaok feed ration. They told me they have something similar. These are the two options. The AP 60 is pellet and the West Texas is textured. Cost is $11 and $13 a bag. Are either a good option with me adding anything that is lacking?

What are you feeding, a steer or a hfr? Also, are you just starting the feeding and when is your target end date?

I have used AAOK's ration for a long time and like it a lot for various reasons. Depending upon where you are located you may have to adjust the ration to your area and use feed stuffs that are readily available to you. You should be able to cut the quoted price easily by half and probably closer to 2/3s. Just buy a small batch cement mixer at your local farm supply sales company. I bought my current mixer at an Orchlens store for under $300.00, it works great for me. I use like seed totes for various ingredients, have a small hanging scale to measure out ingredients. Your kids will learn how to mix feed, discover there are no magic ingredients, be able to custom mix feeds for different stages and classes to cattle, for instance market steers verses breeding heifers. With the lessons learned and the costs savings I would gear up for making my own feed. All feed manufacturers are going to say right away that they can mix , or have one similar to what you are asking. They want to sell you that high priced feed!! Good luck. :

I agree with CAB, but if you need something before you can get serious up to mix your own, I'd use the 12% protein feed at this stage of the game (thumbsup)
