This is good.

Take charge looks real sound up front... ;)

we had a dj engineer daughter we raised, never saw any picture before now. she was a good cow.

kinda cool how the picture of stockman reminds you of how similar northern improvement looks to him. i love how they seem to be consistent and throw a certain type in their calves.

Boy, those pictures don't look like I remembered them.  Long legs and no guts.  Honestly, its amazing how we've ever got to cattle this short with bulls in the background that look like a lot of those.

intensive genetic selection over time...  and a swinging curve.

At least they warn you by saying, do not to breed take charge to straight fronted females.

Black Bear (bull on the maternal side of ZKCC Chopper and Bonnell's Black Jade cow for ex.) is out of Libby's Black Bonus Bozo and a Black Max cow. He was a 1993 model and looks way better than the Trio Black Bear you have pictured which was born in 1994. I couldn't find a picture but have seen one before.

Funny how 2 bulls came out at roughly the same time with the same name. Maybe they were fans of the movie, The Great Outdoors, and Black Bear sounded better than Bald Headed Bear or maybe there was a rap song at the time called Black Bear.

DSC Mr Dunk, besides looking extremely straight on his back legs, looks like he should have been the great Simmental bull in clubby pedigrees instead of Meyer 734. That is one good fronted PB Simmental.

Thanks for posting these great pictures. Funny how these bulls are still showing up in pedigrees of today's bulls.

I was wondering if this was the same black bear in Grizzley's pedigree.  This black bear, is pretty danged average looking none the less.

black bear does appear in the top side of grizzley's pedigree.

interesting note is that black bear was bred by B&D Cattle Company. Denny Benoodt & Bill Dwyer.

maybe some one can locate a photo of  black bear?

Weirdest thing..

Page 62 '96 ABS catalog...

Bull MARC Twinners a twin mix...

description: 1/2 Norwegian Red, 1/4 Swedish Friesen, 1/8 Char, 1/8 Maine
28% of his daughters should produce twin calves
Sires large % of choice cattle with 97% going YG 1 & 2.

Interesting black and white underlined bull, shows his dairy heritage-- looks alot like a composite Holstein/ Jersey.

Photo of the Black Bear bull that shows up more in pedigrees.  It has been suggested that his legs were painted in this photo but I do not know.

I remember these AI catalogues from back then.  They are like the "missing link" from the 10 frame cattle of the 80's and early 90's to todays cattle.  It's interesting to me for a couple of reasons.  First, there seems to be more genetic diversity back then (albeit probably not the best genetics).  Second, there seems to be more pictures of mature bulls (rather than the 10 month old pictures we see today).

Anybody have a picture of Poplar Haven Smithbuilt?  I bought a Maine Break X Smithbuilt cow for my son.  I know he is really old.

listing of bulls on page 2

On another interesting note:  One particular clubby bull from this era, had a dam that was Cub x Cunia...  Isn't that ironic that another clubby bull that just sold this week- from this era-- also has a Cub x Cunia dam--  Q Dog...
