On another note, do you have a lot of galloways? Don't see alot of them where I am but they seem to be good cattle, I like the pics of the ones i have seen on here.

We run about 60 head and most of them are fullblood registered Galloways.  I have had a Galloway herd since I was 12 years old.  Most of the ones posted on here have been mine, so thanks.

Naughty pine clicked for eye candy (as much as I did not like eye candy i do like naughty pine and it worked) I personally would stay away from monopoly and his sons if your going heatwave genetics go back to heatwave the galloway should add plenty of maternal and he is looking for the next best thing since sliced bread not another sliced bread company (market overflow of monopoly bred cattle). In my opinion I would look at something along the lines of paddy o malley, firewater? (if that tickles your fancy), or even friction if you can get semen to concieve. Call me crazy but if friction was as fertile as heatwave would have been then we might have a completely different strand of genetics out there in the cow side of this clubby business.

Plenty maternal, completely clean pedigree.

1/2 Galloway 1/2 Angus birthweight won't be an issue.  Cows has plenty almost too much flex.

Seems like its a pretty popular opinion to throw a little Heatwave or Heatwave influence at her, which I can certainly understand.

You obviously like the Galloway blood, and appreciate what it has to offer.

Here is a thought...Eye Candy!

You get a 3/8 Galloway calf, you get Heatwave influence (the calf's Grandfather will be HW), you get all the hair you would ever want, you get a soft belly, and if you get a heifer calf...you get good shouldered, angular, club calf making machine that you can breed to about anything!!

What the heck, I couldn't stand to not throw another idea out there.

And again, Heat Wave should work well.  If you're going to use a clone, I've really only seen some and the most consistent IMO is Heat Wave 6.

got a full sister 2yr old calving in April.  Dam is 9 yrs, calving April, have granddam 11yrs calving in March.  Have 6 other 1/2 blood cows out of same bull.

Have 3/4 Galloway heifer calves out of the 1/2 blood cows and the bull in my avatar, and pictured below.

Breed what you want.  You've got some nice cattle.  keep up the good work.  But if you do want to dip your foot into the pool, you've got some cows that would probably spit out some nice club calves but keep with older, proven, higher % Chi bulls (offspring that will be at least 6.25%) that'll give you more options with the calves...bulls, steers or heifers.  You might just have the start of something big.  So again, I would recommend Heat Wave or Naughty Pine.  Best of luck.

I like the idea of Eye Candy!! Or maybe unproven bull Sugar Rush. You would have the walks alone and the eye candy. As he is out of eye candy's full sister.

The two things I would try to add to her is some bone and clean up that front 1/3 some.  I think that you have a great start there to help prevent the bottle neck the show industry is creating with only a couple of blood lines with 50,000 sons of those few blood lines being used. You want the next great thing I think it is going to be a bull that is maternal and outcross to the current common blood lines used so these breeders can get some new blood in their heifers. Color is  becoming more popular so I would try a char bull for a smoke or maybe shorthorn, something along sin city lines with a lot of white for a cool blue roan. The other route I would go is maybe purebred maine be able to register as 1/2 blood. Maybe a simmy since you can register 1/2 bloods, but someone with more experience than me would have to give you advice on that. I know some of them can get pretty leathery up front.

Was curious if you think Pericles would be heifer safe on high percent maines.  Just looking for something different to use on first calf heifers.

Ya she could use some bone, her dam is fine boned for a Galloway.  Her front 1/3 looks worse than it is, she has a pile of hair from the shoulders forward.  Her head and neck are very feminine when clipped.

We use Pericles on Angus and Galloway heifers all the time.  Calves are in the 70-85 lb range, and we don't touch them.  Our 2yr old heifers weigh around 850-900 lbs the show heifers obviously heavier.  He will not throw little 60 lb jackrabbits with no growth.

Bobby Wellner used him on clubby bred heifers.  He had to assist some to get the head out, then no issues.  All were just by hand, no jacking or C-sections.

So yes he will work, but you may have to help them.

The resulting heifers will be great cows.  Pericles' females have been awesome.

Bobby said he is liking his better everyday.

We just started using Walks Alone in this year's set of calves and we used Monopoly sparingly because of his price and availability in Canada.  Eye Candy's price in Canada has gone high as well.

I agree on sugar rush .... being a walks alone out of eye candys full sis. He should do everything your saying u need and breed more consitent being a 1/4 galloway himself. Id really like to see what he would do on ur cow. Just my 2 cents!
