I have seen both. Amen is way cool. Simple math is built right and could work if you have some 8 foot tall cows because he is way short he only is about waist high no bs either

I thought about breeding simple math to my angus cow.  Is semen hard to get on these bulls?

I used Simple Math on an Angus based Summitcrest High Prime cow....she is a pretty tall female, I am anxious to see how much he downsizes.

Breed to them anyway, they said Who Made Who was too short, they said Heat Seeker was to short, Heat Wave was too short, should i continue or do you get my point. The club calf industry and the commercial industry for that matter are geared toward smaller framed animals, cattle shows in general want smaller framed cattle, most slaughter houses and packers want smaller framed cattle, really the only people wanting larger framed cattle are those that are so EPD driven for growth they throw the rest of the animals qualities out the window. Look how many people on here talk about downsizing their cows, why is that? Because they are too big, yet if a bull isn't the size of their cows they are puds, doesn't make sense too me. Take a trip next spring and look at some of the really high sellers in your area and tell me what the frame size of the majority of the mothers are, the larger percentage of them will be the smaller framed cows in the herd.

They still have to produce a 1300# finished steer.  The question is how to mate them to make sure your steer doesn't pud out too early.  Hard to tell what these young bulls are going to do at this point.

I bred cows to him. I have no problem with smaller framed bulls. They have their place in my herd

Shaggy, I would surmise from your post that you haven't been to a sale barn lately. And I'm not talking about a show cattle sale. The barns around here are tough on the small framed show types, although I won't argue that many cows in use today are too large framed. I guess what I'm saying is that a pud is a pud. JMO

So your saying that Amen is there currently?  If so do you have any idea if you can stop and see him on a weekend or is that a 9-5 monday-friday deal.  Traveling through that area this weekend and would love to take a peak at him.

I guess its a matter of opinion and preference, yes i have been to the sale barns i just sold some cattle last week actually, remember that there is a difference in "small framed" and "slow growing" and most good cattlemen at the yards can tell. I have had larger framed cattle and some really small framed cattle, and at my place the smaller ones always do better. Take this for example, we breed a very small framed Who Made Who cow to Heat Wave and had a January calf this past year, bred her early cause with those genetics and her size i figured the calf would grow slow and be smaller to hit 550lbs by our fair. Well, we had to hold him pretty hard just to keep him under 700lbs, i bet he would be close to 800lbs if we let him eat what he wanted, yet he will finish out a smaller framed steer probably around 1250 if i had to guess but it will just happen much sooner than some.
