Anyone have any experience using Angus bulls on their Dream On Simmental cattle? If so what bulls are working? I am thinking about trying Northern Improvement on a Dream On heifer.
I think Northern Improvement on your Dream On cow Simmental cows will make them too big. I have used OCC Legend on Dream Ons with good success. OCC Missing Link is another Olde bull that would work and is available (Last I heard Legend was off the market).
We used Ransom on a first calf Dream On heifer and her bull calf is very saleable. He is really deep middled and soggy and wraps it up in a pretty neat package. He's not a Heat Wave, but for what he is, we like him. I think the right angus bull back on Dream On's could make some killer heifers. I'm looking for one with as much guts as possible to use next year.
Northern Improvement will work and they may be big but many of the clubby bulls we use today will downsize them. Our best calves this year were out of NI females. I am also using my bull in the avatar picture that is a Eureka X Full sister to OCC Freestyle. He will dowsize but he is cool fronted and big bodied with tremendous power. We have some great females coming into production out of him and some steers we will show this year in the slick shows. A breeder down here used him last year and sold an $11,000 American Cross out of him.
Saw some BC Marathon's and some BC lookout's on Dream On's. Pretty awesome lookin heifers for sure. I think the Lookout bull does a little better job than his daddy Marathon.

Our old standby was/is OCC Legend....we have used Lookout also, and will continue to do so....Lookout will not reduce frame like Legend....adds just about as much for guts, and has more performance kick. But he is not "bet the house" calving ease like Legend.
I would contemplate Net Worth strictly for performance on moderate Dream On's.
