I am sure all from Iowa has heard this, but since no one brought it up, and the other "famous" folks were...

Coach Thomas was the FB coach for Aplinton and Parkersburg for the last 34 years. He has had LEAST 4 players make it to the pro's. But he was more than a jock coach. He was a great man. Some might recognize his name from when Parkersburg was wiped out (literally) by a F5 tornado last year. He was the one who almost single handedly pulled that town up. He got his team together and cleaned up the field, clean up the school grounds. Led the charge to rebuild the town. Not one unkind word about Coach Thomas. Not one.

He was shot and killed on Monday morning by a 24 year old MAN (hate it when they refer to him as a "boy"). This man had been in trouble with the law many times, and was a known drug user, had assault charges, and various other chargers. His decline is obvious in the photos from senior in school to murderer.  Coach Thomas was even a mentor to this man, and many said he was one of the few that tried to help the man.

He was given a second chance. He was given a third chance. Even a third and forth chance. And yet he blew it.
I can see no reason why we as a society continually give these drugged out phsyco's chance after chance until theyfinally kill an innocent, model citizen. Who is going to give Coach Thomas a second chance?

Or...should we give the killer yet another chance and say he was "mentally impaired".?

Yea , it was a shame that had to happen. Didn't I hear that the guy was out on release from a psycho hospital or something like that? He sure was a mentor to a lot of people.

I heard about that on  the AM talk radio this morning. Ours prayers are with his family. They played a sound byte of his sons talking about him, he sounded like a good man to have in the community. It sure is a huge loss to lose good people like that.

it's often rationalized to do something if it would save just one life.  obviously "we" should have done that.

funny how rationalization is not consistent.

it all boils down to votes, not caring.
