Heres a 3 hour old hiefer out of a Dubais X by Angus sire (or something like that) who is throwing some decent calves that look like they have performance from day one. This hiefer calf is about 3 hours old-and already looks like a 4 o"clock fat steer.Think shes gonna grow?  The cow is not that small-and has had normal sized females in the past, including one of wout of Proud Jazz that has raised some good calves. This is her second mini-and I think its Angus in the woodpile x Len Ru Ta Leader x Kaba Leader-I've seen several dwarfs out of this line of KABA breeding when both bulls are in the picture.. I no longer own her-but am sharing a flush to try and keep my breeding from dissappearing-because this family are GOOD cows. Not many Shorthorns have a small BW problem-she does. So-if I  use a Shorthorn-maybe Talledega or HC Free Spirit or ? Need big and thick Thanks in advance O0 O0

I'm more comfortable with the BEPD on Free Spirit than on the other bull.  Free Spirit has some higher BW ancestors, but it looks like it is decreasing well, like Rodeo BW does when he is diluted.  On the other hand, in some lines of cattle the high BW carries on for generations.  The other bull surely has a BEPD around 8 and has a pedigree stacked full of big birth weights.  I don't predict how thick of calves the 2 bulls sire, but probably both would add thickness to most Shorthorns.  Before the Continental breeds moderated their BW it seemed to some of us that breeding for the exotic thickness (even if staying with straight Shorthorns) would likely result in similar calving ease to the early imports.

Thanks Dale I've pretty well ruled out Talladega for those reasons-Salute is far enough back on Free Spirit, and just about everything else is Canadian, which would in my mind make him more consistant-and have more older breeding from that background to compliment the kinda strange Irish xfull blood maine linebreeding of her sire O0
