Power plant is the paternal grandsire of the bull in my avatars maternal grandam.

Shaver Nelson in there as well. So he's sort of a crossbred bull.

Reason would be for more bulls like him to be available.

Even though I think he's far enough away from the infused blood for his genetics to be stabilized, that is one of the primary reasons I've been using him on my commercial cows.

I'm probably wrong but didn't you say 7 generations in a previous post for "infusion" to be gone? Probably someone else.

Maines are shorthorns without anyway so it doesn't matter really and high percentage blacks are still shorthorns.

Every breed is really just a couple of phenotypic traits and some closed breeding.

Do not know the exact date but they allowed "red" maines in to the herd book as 3/4 shorthorns some years back. Beacuse the Maines are made up of shorthorn blood. If you had a purebred "red" maine you could get entry. Now I went round and round with ASA when i said there was some white on a cow. WHY I DO NOT KNOW? I do not know how they came up with percentages either. That rule is changing next year according to percentages.

What will the rule change be regarding purebred red Maines.

Is it purebred or Fullblood or both that can enter as 3/4? (as of right now)

a solid red fullblood is one thing but just a solid red purebred should no way be able to enter at the 3/4 status.

when i dual registered my fullblood maines earlier this year, i sent in my maine papers, paid a $25 fee and received a 3/4 shorthorn plus paper on each animal. i did this after an asa member told me the rule might change. back when the asa first allowed this, i thought that only fullbloods or purebreds bred up from shorthorn base cows could be entered in the asa herdbook as 3/4, but this seems to have changed throughout the years.

From ASA book

Related Breed Entry: Other Shorthorns (i.e. Milking Shorthorns) shall enter the American Shorthorn Association Herd Book at same level in which they are recorded by their herd record. Registered Maine-Anjou (with a red color designation) shall enter the American Shorthorn Association Herd Book at the 3/4 level. Maine-Anjou shall receive the prefix MA prior to registration number. Effective August 1, 2008 Maine Anjou shall be considered ShorthornPlus and receive the AR prefix prior to their registration number. Lincoln Reds shall enter the American Shorthorn
Association Herd Book at the 100% level.

There was some dicussion from what I was informed in changing the percentages. Can't remember the exact wording at this moment, but sure will pass along when I find it.

Have two red bulls one a half blood and one a purebred that will be getting drawn this fall when I pull them off grass. If interested can send some pictures and pedigree.

Just Rite 501M was a Hartman bred red bull that was a known producer. He was a purebred and probably got used on a bunch of Shorthorns. There is some semen on him as well. Hartman may have semen or perhaps the other owners. You can find them by using a pedigree search on AMAA.
This was the bull that came to mind for me too. My only concern would be if thedaughters would have any milk.
