Anyone ever successfully IVF'd a cystic donor?

Got a pb sim hfr that has a huge reaccuring cyst on her left ovary. Wondering if anyone has had any luck recovering oocytes from 1 like this?

We have one at Donor Solutions now and they found a cyst last time she was set up and would not flush her.  They set her back up and are breeding her now for collection next week.  They said the cyst was gone and they won't try if she is cystic at the time.  Limited experience with IVF if you're collecting her that way.

We occasionally get cystic donors and can usually collect them successfully.  She’ll likely require a bit extra time to set up, at least one extra DFR (dominant follicle reduction) and/or extra drugs which would all be planned out by the collection centre but after that you should be good to go!

As far as I know, DFR is still a physical procedure done when flushing traditionally. You're basically draining the dominant follicle similar to aspirating the ovary during IVF.

If I was you, I would be concentrating on IVF. If treatment shows you can get a window of regression on the cyst, I would shoot for aspiration during that window. Either way, you might only be working with the good clean ovary so reduced production should be expected. Being a heifer without the pregnancy and calving process to mature her, it's going to compound the problem. They also like to be cautious with the FSH on heifers, and for good reason, but it doesn't help with production. If you feel like you have nothing to lose, you might have to push the limits on round two or three before giving up.

If you attempt this, I would make sure to have her in the correct body condition, on an increased plain of nutrition, getting plenty of exercise, on a friendly ration, and only use semen with a collection code that has a history of giving a high egg to oocyte ratio.

at some level, i would generally only mess with an older proven cow with a cyst.


did you purchase her or raise her?


that probably affects why you are messing with this.

I left that out because I’m not a vet and don’t want to give you advice that might mess up your donor. These drugs and procedures are a lot more technical than most people think. Please talk to your collection centre to be safe and good luck with your collection.
