Lots of these ads are in no way connected to Angus Assoc. ,they are just using the Angus name and  can't do anything about it .. so its hard telling what kind ofmeat is being served ,basically the name ANGUS ,means meat now and is a selling point ....

^^^ thats because McDonalds generally sucks at everything. Angus sounds better than black hided beef or hereford burgers. They could wave something around about The Maine Anjou, a french burger

I guess what I was really thinking is it is sad no matter what kind of beef they are selling that they can do a better job of promoting it then we do. I understand they are trying to sell a sandwich and make money, but isn't that what we should be doing. Say what you will about the CAB but it could be the best marketing any one breed has done for the whole beef industry.

It all really goes back to the fact that our beef checkoff's best marketing ploy was Beef its whats for dinner! It needs to evolve and do a better job. As breeders we need to stop bashing something just because it isn't our breed of choice or may not like it. If it WORKS we should be looking at what we can do to better it not stop it.

Just like I saw a post on the BIM semen sales, stop being so short minded instead of calling the buyers idiots why not figure a way to capitalize on people's reactions. It is just like the sale barn, cattle are worth more now then they ever have been, but it will only be that way as long as the market supports it. When they decided to turn it around that is what will happen.....so are you going to take advantage of the high markets or are you going to complain and say I don't understand how they can pay that so you don't sell until they can prove they can pay that much?!? don't think so. Sorry it has finally warmed up and my blood is boiling a little easier than normal

Someone told me that in the USA they are  DNA testing carcasses so that only certified angus beef gets sold as certified angus beef. Is that true?

can you imagine them having a jingle saying "everyone loves Limousin beef dude" or hereford, shorthorn anything.  people just want beef half don't care where it comes from. personally i wouldn't trust McDonald's with real Angus beef patties or any of their patties. they taste more like soy bean and dried up momma cows that wont milk. And really think about it how many people even know why Angus is the leader in steaks and burgers? do they really know its because of marbling?

They dont specify which part of the angus the burger is made of.  You can take a holstein and get a good and bad cut out of it, same goes with angus, shortys, simmys, maines and so on.  That is part of the reason we give shots in the neck is so the fast food joints can buy that crap and call it what they want.

I'll tell you what we had one of Arby's new angus sub's and it sucked, we won't be wasting our money again.  I'll stay home and make my own tasty Maine / cross thank-you very much!

When any meat product is being sold as "Angus", the USDA requires that it must be proven to be so. Certified Angus Beef is separate from this catagory as they have their own verification program that was in place well before this ruling. All the meat sold at fast food joints, including this Arby's product, must be DNA tested to be a certain percentage "Angus". The DNA verification test is called AnguSure and is performed by Viagen in Austin, TX. The USDA does not require every animal to be tested, but only 1 animal per truck load. I can't remember what the passing percentage is, maybe 65% or 70%. You'd be suprised how many loads don't make it.
