Just liked his looks and have not had time to use him yet ...

This heifer calf is a Rumor Mill out of a Hotline dam. We have been extremely pleased with the overall consistency and look of his calves.  We, too, feel he is safe to use on heifers, for his calves' birthweights have ranged from 65 to 75 pounds.

Semen is available on Rumor Mill.

Thank you,

Looks real good, bet he will work ...

Thank you, Freddy, for your kind words.  The challenging part, as you know, is persuading breeders to use a given bull.  We, the owners, feel as though the overall quality of his first calf crop will be the catalyst for others to try Rumor Mill.  At least, that is what we are hoping ...

I am going to use him on some Heat Wave and Monopoly heifers when they are of sound breeding age.

Jason Shatto bred his Eye Candy heifers to Rumor Mill, so we are optimistic the calves will be nicely designed and marketable.  I guess we will know next spring.

This is a picture Katie Johnson took of Rumor Mill in Denver, January 2011.  I will attempt to photograph him this weekend as a 2 year -  old in his working clothes.

Thank you, DBL J1, for your pleasant words pertaining to the R.M. heifer we have pictured.

Goodness Pat...He looks like his mother. I like. Like the heifer as well.

How well do the Hotline's milk and raise a calf?

Thank you, Telos ...

In our experience, the Hotline cows have been generous milkers that have exhibited the maternal characteristics to raise solid calves.

Is there any sexed semen available?

Currently, sexed semen is not available on Rumor Mill; however, there is discussion among the owners to make this an option.

Thank you for the question.

Mark,

If and/or when sexed semen is offered on Rumor Mill, we will definitely inform the public. We do appreciate your interest in obtaining and possibly utilizing his genetics in your herd.

In terms of what type of cow(s) blended well with him, we, the owners, used a variety of types and breeds of cattle for a more diverse calf crop sampling. For example, at our place, we have two flashy heifer calves out of moderately framed, Maine-influenced dams (Dirty Harry and Boomer 1st calvers). Blind Badger bred Rumor Mill to Maines, Angus, and Chars; look to see several of his calves in their Back to Basics Sale in November. The Rumor Mill x Hotline heifer calf pictured above is currently at their place in Colorado. Shea (Geffert) has some really cool Rumor Mill calves in his sale, too. What we have discovered is that he has been used quite successfully on first time calvers, so that possibly makes him a little bit more of a commodity to use. At least, we certainly hope. I realize I did not answer your question, Mark, directly, but with time and seeing more calves, I will, hopefully, be able to accomplish that.

Thanks again for your comments and questions. We appreciate them.

This is a cow that I have thought about breeding to him for her natural calf after flushing this fall.

Thanks! She will be flushed this fall starting at end of October. Potential Flush Matings include I-80, Hard Whiskey, BIM, MAB, MOP, and Macho.......decisions to be made.
