We are looking for some good steers to show. We are looking for calves for April Fair, July State Fair and our September County Fair. I am not looking to buy calves. I am looking for a business opportunity that we could work out a deal on profits.

OK, I'll be the first to ask--if you don't want to BUY the steers, what's in it for the "seller"? You are assuming a profit--often that is not the case when feeding show steers. I would love to hear your proposal--either post it here or send me a PM if you don't want to share with everyone....

You are all quite hilarious. Im just asking for people's opinions on it. Yes there is profit on show steers if they can win. Steers can sell for $20k up after they show. This is my last year showing and I want to end it well. If you want to know where im located then pm me.

I dont think anything is wrong by asking ,some of us are marketing challenged and sometimes you just need exposure.it a good way to get it.I do it with heifers and it gets them gentle and halter broke,less I have to do.Rusty

That may be true with heifers--at least you have "breeding stock" when you're done. Steers, well, unless they win you probably have an animal worth market price. I'm certainly not trying to argue with anyone--I'm just saying MOST people would certainly rather sell steers than gamble on a big payoff with a winning steer. I can see the logic a bit more with breeding heifers--perhaps the breeder wants to retain the heifer in their herd, etc.  I guess my thought is if you have bought them for $5K and sold them for $20K++, I'd just keep reinvesting my "profit" and BUY them.......

We put calves into kids hands that otherwise wouldn't be able to get one that may be competitive. I admire kids for trying to think outside of the box. To be quite honest things have gotten way out of control as far as what the better steer calves are supposely being sold for. JMO.

This is a business and nothing wrong with asking!

One thing I would suggest if you want to attract a good oppurtunity, state your Showing resume!  State wins, evidence that you can fit, what is your feeding and daily care program!  Do you have a cooler?  Just some thoughts!  Give evidence that you can back up your end of the bargain and not just looking for a free ride!  Just some thoughts!

I understand you all. As for my feed program. They are all on grass hay and some alfalfa. I feed show string or showmaster, melatonin, magic by sullivans, show bloom, Shag, and Glucosamine. We have put cattle on adequan shots. I do have a cold box. They go in April depending on heat. They get rinsed,and brushed twice a day, I do not blow in the summer until it comes down time to get the hair popped. I use kleen sheen and infusion. They are out in the pasture all night and go in the coldbox early morning. I currently raise and show 6 heifers(3 Shorthorns,1 Angus,and 2 Maine) for a guy. I fit all my own cattle at the shows and I have several friends that will often help me since I have alot. I have been to 3 Stierwalt clinics and I can clip a calf very well. I often have people clip the steer and Il clip the heifers. I have won many jackpots and fairs. Last year I won the Overall division in steers and showmanship in our state association for jackpots. I have won my showmanship at my fair the last two years and was 2nd my first year. I was res. supreme steer in 08. This year my big calf just wasnt sound enough in the end, and my little steer won his class but he was 1200lbs. He was for a later show that I ended up not going to due to a rodeo. I am just looking for someone who wants to get their calves out here and who wants to be very competitive. Im not sure what sort of deal we could work out yet. I want to get more involved in the show industry. I could and plan to show heifers until Im 21.

That is a photo of my big calf winning in Jan. at a jackpot. My passion is fitting and working the cattle and then of course showing. I just want to get out there and show cattle for people. I plan on going to Denver to watch the steer show, Id be happy to help with anything.
