I just wanted to show off my baby calf born last night. I took pictures of her this morning, so she is pictured at less than 24 hrs old. Her dam is my old show heifer from last year, a Hereford from Nelson Land and Cattle, and the sire is an Angus. She was actually born a week early. She doesn't have a name yet, so any suggestion would be appreciated! Also tell me what you think of her and her momma. Thanks.

Who is mom sired by? What made you decide to breed her angus rather than AI to hereford?

I also have troubles with coming up with names for my baby calves. Anyway here are some suggestions Star, Oreo, Angel, Candy, Samantha, Sassy, Lucky, Sweet P, Cookies n' cream, Bella and Diamond. Those are just a few suggestions. I hope you find a name that fits your new baby calf. Naming a calf you can think of possibly anything songs, movies and food. Good luck with finding a calf name. For more with finding names go to one of these sites http://www.petnamezone.com/cow-pet-names.html, www.funpetnames.com/cow-pet-names.html . Good luck. Oh and very cute baby calf i am always like black and white calves no matter what. I really like her momma she looks like she is built with lots of muscle overall i like her, even though i do not like herefords. Good choice with crossing her momma with an Angus bull because all of the herefords and the cross with an Angus bull i have seen come out to be a very nice cows.

best thing you could do with a hereford is crossbreed them

I beg to differ.   We've got some pb herefords that'll run with the crossbreds in the show ring or pasture!! Well maybe just the pasture, but they're still pretty good!!!

Actually, the grand champion hereford at the ABC Jackpot Show in Maryland this past weekend was 4th overall in the show. There was about 200 steers there. He was a meat wagon! I'm not a hereford person but your cow looks like a good one and the calf looks like she'll follow in mama's footsteps. Good Luck with her!

Your input wasn't asked for, nor needed.

I just wanted to thank everybody who posted a positive reply. I ended up naming her Idabell.
CPL: I can't remember who mom is sire by, I can't find her papers at the moment  :-\  I decided to breed her Angus the first go around because it's the kind of bull we had handy. I am going to AI her to a hereford next time around. Not sure which bull yet though.

FORBES: Thank you so much for all of the name suggestions. And yes, momma is very well muscled. I actually think she needs to be toned down a bit.

HEREFORDFOOTBALL: The calf is out of an angus bull they call Extra Special. I will have to ask and see what his pedigree is. When she was getting clipped for a show last year, she came into heat at that time. This bull was there and so we just put her with him.

Thanks again everybody else for the replies.

Judging by her pic and since she came from Nelsons you would have a hard time messing up on choosing a bull to ai her to. I would personally either go Channing or something with Online background in it. Maybe something a touch clubby with Online in it like Hard Drive or Cyrus(trauschs new herf), I'm bettin' anyway you'll come out on top!!! Good Luck!

Hard Drive at NWSS. I think he'd work great on her. He's a Remitall Online 122L son. Heres Cyrus in the yards. He's a BR Moler ET(Online son) son out of trauschs high cotton cow. I think he'll throw some great ones too. Saw Cyrus up close and he is extremely impressive!!! We bred one of our hereford cows to Hard Drive this year.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, both of those bulls look great! The only problem I have with my female, which you can't really tell from the pictures, but she has hardly any neck extension. Would either of these bulls lengthen and pretty her up through the front?

Cyrus will probaly give you a little better front than hard drive. If you want something to really awesome fronted you might look into Purple Tonic 10M. We bred him to a Wideload x Pure Gold heifer last year, and the calf has the best front and is really goosey necked!!! I think he adds a lot of extension and feminitity to stockier cows that need a touch more frame and extension. Heres a pic of the heifer and tonic. I can get you a pic of the calf if you really wanted.
