Below is the pedigree of two shorthorn full brothers that appear to have been used quite a lot in Great Britain, Balmyle Zeus and Balmyle Zephyr.
I was curious if any of the Maine Anjou people like Knabe know anything about Echard or Egidius that appear in the pedigrees of these bulls. Another full brother was Balmyle Warpath.
Thanks for any info.

i may have a pic of egidius.

i don't have a pic of echard.  he was registered first in the US and then registered in Canada as scottish echard.

as i mentioned before, echard was exported to brazil and he is in the beaufort line of cattle.

been trying to hunt down semen on echard to no avail

there is semen on a son of echard, newhouse george, though probably not much.

a grandson, manitou's palliser threw some calves

i think i heard echard was used on shorthorns (obviously from pedigree)

this was probably back when the maine infusion "ruined" the shorthorns with high birth weights

I looked at this again for some reason.

two pedigrees are linked to egidius.

egidius is the sire of a bull I have semen on, thunderhead.
another son was Appleton minor, who had 120 registered offspring in Canada. he was probably a tank.
wish I had semen on him.

also, the mgs of egidius is siffleur, who is the sire of dabla, probably maternal. from the looks of dabla vs dabla's pride, I would rather have dabla's pride which I do have.

here is a picture of balmyle warpath a full brother to Zeus warpath was said to be the best bull to stand at the durnos uppermill herd between the second world war and its sale to northern ireland in 2005 he won the royal highland the english royal shows the only year he was ever shown and bred a lot of great bulls and females. The two females are mother and daughter and are line bred to balmyle scorpio whoes grandfather is Echard they also have Egidius in their pedigree a lot too a the UK herd book has been closed to maine breeding since 2001 give or take a year a lot of people now over here and esp in Ireland condemn the maine influence but all the top herds today have balmlye breeding in them and there is no doubt there wouldnt be a breed worth saving in the UK with out the work at Balmyle Bill Bruce and his cattleman Friar Thompson have done the breed a great service and dont get the credit for it today i spoke to Bill last year and i am sure he said he had some maine semen left i think it was Egidius

here are a few more of the balmyle breeding forst picture is balmyle crackle last bull to be sold by balmyle after they dispersed champion of the Perth bull sales 1990 and top price of 4000 guineas breed champion at the royal show 4 times which i think would be a record winner of the burke trophy (an interbreed cup for one male and one female at that time the continental breeds esp Charolais owned it) and breed champion at the royal highland next picture is crackle and Flossy Fretta (84%and Balmyle breeding on both sides) winning the bruke trophy next two pictures are Nearhouse Rob Roy and nearhouse james crackle sons and both Orkney county show champions in there day the Orkney show would be as strong a show quality wise as any in the UK

That means there are at least two people with egidius semen over there.

Have another egidius son in my collection, Appleton minor.

All the females in the pictures posted are magnificent! Like the Burke Trophy winning pair as well, so balanced, and the female has tremendous capacity.
In my opinion the Nearhouse James bull, in the picture, is a bit posty in the hind legs.

Echard or Scottish Echard had semen imported to Brazil to be used for "improve" the Shorthorns here.
Not use widely, 2 o 3 herds used him. Lincoln Reds were widelly udes here, not Maines.
I have some Echard semen.
Tryed to find some pics, not success.

I never saw near house James in the flesh but people said his back legs was his weakness when I was in Orkney I asked his owner Mr flett if I could see him but he took a party of us Inc james' breeder and we got to see the farm and most of the herd but he wouldnt let us near James he knew we were after a stock bull for uppermill (where I worked at the time) and he would only let me see the sale bulls which worked because we bought one of them but I would of taken James from what I heard about him
