It has been many years since I went and I had hoped to go this year, but one of the men where I preach had a propane regulator on his out door cooker blow up on him and they will start skin graft on Tuesday in Lubbock.  It depends on how that goes.

Wish all of you good fortune at the Buckle.  If I get there, will be looking for some of you.

Scales I thought there alot of nice calves there this year. The two that were used were what I think the industry is looking to go toward wich is not extreme on any one characteristic but very complete. Yes there were 4 or 5 in the hunt and that was the way the cookie crumbled. I agree the ones used were both very nice calves and im sure those exhibitors will bring the heat again. I was just messin with you saying it wasnt a red one since yals was red.

yea i agree to.
but when u get a steer thatis complete and has that much power but yet can move.
the callis says hes to coarse when you put ours and the reserve together and feel them. we were way fatter and smoother shouldered.
but its done and over and thats how it was. and i think we do have one of thetoughest county shows in the southeastern part of texas.
but we decide to let them boys settle it out one more year then we might get a exotic to show in 2011.

by the way what is ur name doublestuff?

chambero, we're dating ourselves on this thread.  Vicki's solid white "Woody" steer gets my number 2 slot as best steer I remember seeing - of course just my opinion.  I remember watching them dress Woody at Fort Worth, right outside the old barn that's not there any more.  I stood there for probably 3 hours watching them work on him.  He was absolutely a beautiful, powerful steer.  My number one choice though is Tracy Hayme's son's FW champion, I forget what year, probably 6 or 7 years ago.  He was powerful in the ring and I got up close and looked at him on his way back to the barn - to this day, he's my number one pick as the best steer I've ever seen.  BTW, I also remember Brandon's steer also.  Funny how certain ones come to mind from years past.

Woody that I remember was the black Sugar Ray she had in 86-87 or 87-88 that nearly went undefeated all year but wound Reserve overall at Houston.

I remember the Haymes steer also.

But these days I do good to remember what happened yesterday.

I am only familiar with Brandon Horn's steer that won OKC Spring Show way back when. It was the best Shorthorn I had seen. I think that steer was a major factor for getting people excited about Shorthorns. Considering the time, I would have to say he had the most impact at least for me. Those Steirwalt calves at KC and Denver were pretty darn complete but only saw pictures and video.

you're probably right, I've probably got the names wrong.  I was thinking of the white shorthorn she showed at FW back when calves had a little more frame.  he was a solid white shorthorn and when they got through dressing him, man, he was something to see.  I remember those Sugar Ray's also - we had one we like to have never broke - good calf but he sure had a mean streak in him.  I think that's one reason we fed Herefords after that.

Anybody at the show?  Heard reports the barns looked like a ghost town and was curious if it was true?
