At the state fair my wife and I met when we were 18, in 4-H, and had graduated from high school. In those days a 4-H beef exhibitor stayed 10 days for the 3 shows. Those were the days...with real food (trans fat included) for real people.
Other memories are the shows--Johnny, Willie, Alabama, Dolly, Beatles, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Don Williams, etc. For some shows we did not have a ticket, but listened from outside & maybe saw their backs while they performed.
Ribbons are not as important as they used to be--I have stood first and last in class. What seems more important is friends who show up for weddings and funerals.
