Best Irish Whiskey Son

What is everyone's opinion on who the best Irish Whiskey Son is? I know they might all have something they do best, so state your opinion and give reasoning. Everyone likes something different.

I would say the most proven one is paddy O'Malley. I look for maternal perfection to do great things. Also, cervesa females are really looking the part. There's my 2 cents worth.

My hang up he's not perfect if he has Pha and I doubt he's maternally perfect either.

For the record, I plan on using Pha bulls, just not black ones.

No perfect bull that carries Pha Shoukd end up with offspring in a commercial herd.

That's another hang up I have.

Lonnie Sievers also has an Irish Whiskey son that he has collected & sold a little juice on, but that's about all I know about him. A couple of bulls that I am watching right now that are 3/4 blood MA are Summit and Shelby both by Hard Drive. Summit I think was out of an Ali x Meyer and Shelby out of a Meyer.
Classic is also a bull that I have been watching for a couple of years. Sired Rebel Soul of late. He's PB & I don't think that I want to inject that much MA. here.

Would I use him.....we will see in about 2 or 3 years and if I do I highly doubt I would ever keep any daughters out of him. Sure he will probably make some cool daughters but none that I would ever keep around.

You could just test the daughters then make a decision on whether or not to keep them.

how does everyone think about making cows 3 generations ahead rather than buying what someone has thought 2 or more generations ahead to create?

if you look at irish whiskey, he came from what everyone claims they want to stay away from, i.e. his mother is out of cunia and cunia is all over the place in his pedigree.

same with a few bulls that everyone likes with the older genetics.

perhaps this is exactly why there are so few prepotent bulls.

This is somewhat of a loaded question and it really depends on what cow types/genetics you use these Whiskey sons on. There is no question that Irish Whiskey work on good Angus based cattle (those F1 heifers and even the bulls are hard to beat). It's when you start lining him up with more Maine (and other) genetics that they can get a bit over-done. Whiskey x Sooner's for example seem to rarely work, from what I've seen, and can get crow footed and tight structured in a hurry. Hard Whiskey seems to work from a standpoint of physical appearance and maybe Hard Drive himself  has enough outcross Maine genetics and therefore helps make this individual work.. He seems to be a correct well put together calf and should work on your HW's and other sound made clubby genetics. The trick is to keep them sound by using other breeds that aren't restricted IMHO. Whiskey himself is loaded down with Cunia and other extremely powereful Maine genetics and in most cases I would stay away from breeding them too close. Monopoly on paper would seem  to be a good choice because of the outcross genetics in relation to Whiskey himself. To me, show steer production is and has always been about crossbreeding. The problem is to try to get more consistant results. It's still pretty much of a numbers game. Just my 2 cents.

I think the best two include The Irishman and one that is often over looked which is Griswold's Patton. Hard Whiskey maybe the best one?

Afterhours has really been working nicely for us,  thanks for the post Brent.  We have 21 Afterhours on the ground now.  All unassisted out of a variety of cows including Clubby bred 2nd calvers.  Heifers have been 75-85 and bulls 80-95 consistently.  All solid black and really good structured.  He has been throwing more hair than we expected and the calves are simply exploding as they age.  Due to the craziness of calving season and the lack of green grass and warm temps, i have not had the chance to grav many pics, but here are 2 candids of an Afterhours x I Am Legend that i was able to grab with my cell phone last week.
