When we decided to switch to showing cattle last year... mainly since we started raising and selling some we thought we knew what we were getting ourselves into. This being the second (and last) year son will be able to show, I can say 'WHEW!" As much as I love it, it truly is very hard work and very much a big roll of the dice. My Dad always played poker so I guess that's where I get it from! (lol)
No but seriously we are right in the center of TX and thought we'd have a easier time selling calves. We've sold a few but certainly not nearly enough to justify the work and expenses. I realize it takes time to build any business... and also the economy certainly hasn't helped... but in a way I'll be glad when son is done showing since I think people come nearer to buying from you if they know you don't have kids showing. Fortunately we also raise and sell dorper sheep and a few show goats too.
