best place to buy high dollar claves

In your opinion where is the best place to buy state fair calves that will be in the running to win!!!!

depends on the state ohio probly a club calf person out west somthin a little less clubby probly south you want slick sheer but bushy park farms is your best bet for both club calves and quality breeding stock

also buck cattle co i think they had the grand maintainer heifer at least in its class sired by monopoly they have national champions so i would think they could win a state fair

Buck and Bushy Park would be more geared to heifers I assume you are looking for steers?

Truth is there are great cattle all over the country now days. Look in your own state and neighboring states. I live in WV and we are not known for great producers of club calfs.However, every year our state fair winner is either bought in state or in a neighbor state.  I like the idea of buying locally. I dont think there has ever been a state fair of Ohio or Illinois champ come from my area tho..lol. just my input

yeah we are looking for steers and we live in Indiana so our state fair is very very challenging to win

I was just thumbing throught the August issue of Show Circuit magazine. There are some phenominal lokking calves selling in Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois. More than you can visit all of them. Looks like you dont need to go far

Spending a lot of money does not mean success......proper care, feeding, and lots of work training hair will get you farther than writing a big check.  Know the basics of good cattle when looking so you aren't another sucker they see coming with a big check book.  Have seen it happen many times.

There are a lot of sleepers and great calves that come from virtually unknown farms. 
It's kind of like skipping the giant shopping mall and going downtown to the small Mom and Pop shops on main street-- you never know what you will find-- I love to cruise through small shops- you find some of the best stuff!
I love to visit the small breeders and find those "diamonds in the rough".  And sometimes they are only just down the road.
I am also famous for just driving by a pasture and seeing something interesting and stopping and asking if the animal is for sale or would they consider selling it-- most of the time it is just a family farm herd and they have several cows, calves, etc. standing out there that are awesome!

Prime example is the steer that won the American Royal this year. It was shown by Goretska and it traded hands a few times before it got to him, but it was first purchased in a sale in Kansas from a small unheard of breeder for $2,200.
